  • For a huge City like Bristol...we dont have a Poundland

We do have other pound shops but no Poundland here :(

Wanted to get some of the Cow & Gate baby food.....
    Brassic forever...
  • I love Poundland, the only trouble is. If I go on just to have a look what they have, I often end up spending 6 or 7 quid. :-)

  • My nearest Poundland is about 20 miles away but it's well worth the trip. last time we were there we bought a CD lens and disk cleaning kit and managed to get a faulty CD player working again. The 4 packs of drain cleaner sachets are excellent if you suffer with smelly sink drains (our shower gets a bit whiffy occasionally and one of these sorts it out in no time).

I also buy the packs of cassette tapes as I still use them - £1 for five compared to £6 in Curry's! Loads of good gadgets too. I go about once every 2 mths and have a day out at the same time :~)

In my local Poundland in Coalville (Leicestershire) I like the Adidas Women's Deodorant.

£1.99 in the Wilko's next door!!! Last time I was in there I bought 2 cans of the Sensitive stuff for the same price as one can costs in the shop next door!!! Jiffy Bags as I sell stuff on Amazon - 4 for a quid!

I love poundland and esp 99p shops - will always shop there no matter my financial status!

The only problem is we go in and always end up spending £30-£40 quid - its really easy to just wander round picking up random stuff that looks like it might be interesting, and after all its only 99p!

Think some self-control might be in order :S

    My fave picks are:
Jiffy Bags, parcel tape, and self assembling boxes (3 in a pack so amazingly cheap!)
Electrical leads - scart leads etc
Shower gels and hand gels if you can find 400ml packs
Branded creams and makeup - found some Urban Decay stuff the other day
Hardback Books - esp travel books, and books on hobbies, some of them look very posh and make great presents
Canvases in 2 different sizes if you are into art, and paints etc, great for the kids
They often do nice tea/coffee/sugar sets in metal or ceramic (but be careful to check for uneven craftsmanship)
    Tupperware
Empty glass jars with the rubber seal and fold down latch thingies - great if you make jams or pickles or cookies and like to give them as presents.
We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic. ;)

    Debt at LBM (Sep 07): £13,500. Current debt: [STRIKE]£680[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£480[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£560[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£13[/STRIKE] £0 overdraft :D
Current aims - to start building up savings
    1st £1000 in 100 days - £1178.03 :D 2nd £1053.38/£1000 :D 3rd £863.59/£1000 :o

I did a Poundland swoop in Eltham last week and got quite a few things already mentioned on her but would like to add:

Pride and Predjudice audio book on CD
Philips interchangable USB retractable thin cable thingy (bought one a year ago $1 ish in Asda)
    Cooker hood filter replacement stuff
    Extension lead
Choc filled ice cream tube wafers in pretty tin
Sticky heater soothers stick on pad things (packet said IBS but can use for anything).
4 pack of Nouvelle (SP?) recycled toilet rolls
    Security plug timer
    Mouse mat with wrist rest

    Happy hunting!
Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!

Don't bother with the lightweight travel rucksack!! After the first use (and honestly there wasn't much weight in it!) it had all frayed away from the seams!

I actually bought this for my flatmate last christmas, as part of his £5 present we promised to spend on eachother, and It has still lasted him almost a year later! (minus 56 days)..
  • I absolutly LOVE poundland/99pstores!!

My son always finds a bargain: Harry Potter/Narnia figures or Hotwheels spinner cars all £1

As a teacher I always get my helpers prizes from here, the kids love the pens on string (15 for£1) and the other assorted sparkley pencils!!

Will pop in when ever I can and pick up a bargain, but be careful alot the sweets are cheaper in Wilko's!!

  • My local poundland bargains:
Dulux paint (satin gloss and cupboard makeover paints available but only in 1or 2 colours) saving about £14
Lots of Phillips electrical stuff in at the mo saving about £5-£10 - eg retractable internet cables, printer to usb cables etc
rechargeable batteries (not tried these out yet)
Plastic containers for storing food, dishwasher / freezer / microwave safe
toiletries such as shampoo/conditioner/deo's/liquid soap/bathfoam - all bargains and way cheaper than boots for top brands such as radox, dove etc.
Oven ware - its not the best quality stuff but for £1 as it lasts long enough
Tea-towels - some really good quality ones, but others are poor quality.
    Gift bags - 3 for £1
Pet toys - the rope ones are good quality
Cleaning products & household - loads of top brands
Perfume - would you believe I got some adidas perfume from here & its really nice - just keep it at work to freshen up with
Makeup - again top name items repackaged to sell on here - Rimmel, max factor, cover girl - I always check here before buying in boots.

My local poundland waste of £1 items:
Paint edger - fell apart when I took it out of the box
plastic dust-sheets -tiny so dont bother as you would need about 10 to cover any decent space
kitchen timer - the alarm bell in it didnt work
TV Ariels - just didnt work at all

The thing is with these places is that the bargains are great, but if something falls apart I tend to think - oh well it was only £1 I wont bother to take it back, so I recon thats where they make the money. There are gems mixed in amongst the bran.

Does anyone know what days they receive deliveries as some days the store looks like its been raided and only the rubbish is left over? To go after the shelves have been stocked would be like a child in a sweety shop for me as I love this place !
