I think I have got under your skin thick as it is that is all I intended,
LAST WORD I am free of nicotine no one on this site will ever be.
REMEMBER THAT
By the sounds of it, neither will your wife or daughter ever be. Bet they kop it before any of us e-ciggers do.
I'm a gambling man.. how about a bet Denis ? Lmao.
Nicotine is poison in it's raw form. It's what you do with it that makes the difference.
What do ciggerettes contain ?
Cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, including 43 known cancer-causing (carcinogenic) compounds and 400 other toxins. These include nicotine, tar, and carbon monoxide, as well as formaldehyde, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, arsenic, and DDT. Nicotine is highly addictive. Smoke containing nicotine is inhaled into the lungs, and the nicotine reaches your brain in just six seconds. Ok
How about E-ciggerettes ?
Well for me personally, as I make my own juice. Vegatable glycerine USP 92%, distilled water 8%, flavourings of choice +10% and a nicotine content of 14mg per ml. The actual vapour exhaled contains next to nothing. So excludes passive vaping from the equation. The vapour inhaled has a much more immediate effect, and doesn't contain added toxins or tar. The nicotine reaches your brain I imagine in less than a second. This is because of it's make up. Vapour, not smoke. It's absorbed quicker.
Lets carry on.
Nicotine in small doses acts as a stimulant to the brain. In large doses, it's a depressant, inhibiting the flow of signals between nerve cells. In even larger doses, it's a lethal poison, affecting the heart, blood vessels, and hormones. Nicotine in the bloodstream acts to make the smoker feel calm.
As a cigarette is smoked, the amount of tar inhaled into the lungs increases, and the last puff contains more than twice as much tar as the first puff. Carbon monoxide makes it harder for red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout the body. Tar is a mixture of substances that together form a sticky mass in the lungs.
Most of the chemicals inhaled in cigarette smoke stay in the lungs. The more you inhale, the better it feels—and the greater the damage to your lungs. You can ask anyone working on a bachelors degree in any medical field and they will be able to tell you what damage
smoking does to the lungs.
More ingrediants found in ciggerettes...

The above speaks volume in itself, I took this information straight from quitsmoking.com and my own personal experience/research. It's worth doing a lot of that.
Then I'd head home and have a word with the wife and daughter, e-cigs may not be the suitable alternative to quiting smoking for them personally. But I'd say that something needs to be done about it, before they give their lives away to it. Nicotine on it's own, has a lot less implications, than all that other stuff added into the equation too.
A little research goes a long way, it also saves lives too.0 -
I've tried to make it a rule in my life, about anything actually . . . to not knock it, until I've tried it . . . because I'm very much aware that I'd look a fool speaking from a postion of ignorance.
And as with all things, what suits one, won't always suit another . . . so I try and live and let live without being unpleasant, disparaging to the folks whose POV is not mine, it's been a hard lesson learnt however, but age does bring some wisdom if you let it.
So, my journey to finding ecigs is this . . . I'd smoked cigarettes for 36 years, a horrific 40/50 a day and £70+ a week. Horrendous, it appalls me now to think about.
If I had a cold, I smoked regardless . . . ending up with chest infections and all sorts of nasties. I never really tried to give up, as quite frankly I LOVED to smoke. My younger and only brother/sibling also so sadly died at 44, very suddenly of a smoking related illness. Did this stop me smoking . . . no of course it didn't, I'm addicted to nicotine and make no bones whatsoever about.
Then, a couple of years ago, I thought I really must get a grip on myself and my spiraling smoking habit . . . so I went on a course of Champix, they worked in as much as I managed 3 days without a cigarette . . . a rare feat for me, as to last 3 hours without one was an achievement.
Then I started to miss the hand to mouth habit, which as many a smoker will tell you, is almost as much a part of smoking as getting your nicotine ' fix ' . . . so I bought an electronic ecig starter kit and have NEVER looked back, I'm now coming up to my 2 year anniversary of being a tobacco free zone.
Quite simply, electronic cigarettes have transformed my life, I can enjoy my nicotine habit minus all the associated dangers tobacco brings, my health has been transformed, I don't smell of fags and it's bought me into contact with the most fantastic group of supportive people you could wish to meet on the internet . . . and it's saved me money of course.
Whilst I'm full of admiration, for those people who put themselves through the torture of nicotine withdrawal and the whole tobacco package . . . it wasn't for me, I'm just eternally thankful that there is a viable, healthier, cheaper option that is working for a growing number of us Vapers.0 -
I'll second that. 2 n a half years off the nasties and haven't looked back. Don't really think about what I used to spend on cigs, but best guess around £600+ per year.
My first year on e-cig costed me around £300-£400 for the year. Trying bits out, buying juice ect. Standard kit and replacement parts.
Second year cost me closer to £200, as I started making my own juice and began with a mod for cheaper parts all round. Less replacement costs.
Now I have stock to last for the whole of this year. Bulk bought for me and a friend. Individual cost for each of us.......... less than £80 - yes - that's for the entire year... and probably longer too. Vaping as much, maybe less, or even more than I've ever used too.
All comes down to what gets thrown at me really. But I'm ready for it
I imagine everyone here is sorry for your loss Geneva. It happens to the best of us.
If I didn't still use nicotine, I'd probally spend more on coffee and food instead. So what's your vice Denis ? I can safely say I don't drink or do drugs. Except the obvious of course.0 -
Thank you Jamie. :kisses3:
As smokers we all know the dangers don't we, my brother was a Paramedic so he well knew the harm of what he was doing . . . it didn't stop him and his death didn't stop me. My family tragedy is one repeated in many for one reason or another.
But that's the thing about addiction, any addiction . . . we know we shouldn't carry on with it, but stopping a harmful/enjoyable pastime is another matter entirely.
I simply didn't want to stop, so if you haven't the will, you haven't the way no matter what you take I'd venture. . . which is why I do admire people who can kick anything really . . . takes guts and real willpower to say goodbye to a familar 'friend' in your life.
For me, and many others of us, electronic cigs have been our salvation, all the pleasure and some, without all the obvious health drawbacks . . . I did a reccy the other day, working out how much I would have spent on tobacco, at today's ciggie prices . . . almost £5,500 in a year I would be spending!!!!
Thank goodness those days are a thing of the past. :beer:0 -
Denis, if you are still about, could I ask you one question?
Well, I'm going to ask anyway
Do you ever eat tomatoes? If so, you are not nicotine free. Tomatoes, plus many vegetables contain nicotine.0 -
Today when out it was the first time since stopping the nasties that I actually saw a couple of people using them, yes first in 6 weeks, they are becoming a scarce breed round here, anyway when I saw then my overwhelming desire was to go and explain to them about e-cigs, not any desire to wish I had one, just to get them off them and see if e-cig would help them. So was pleased I never for a second considered I wished I was them smoking, but I better becareful I don't become on of those busybodies trying to convert every smoker, although in future I will keep some info I typed up for hubby to give smokers in work ( ones I hasten to ask he told about me and they asked for the info) so if I did happen in future to get chatting to a smoker I can give this to them, but I will not initiate a conversation with them and I rarely use my e-cig outside so unlikely, but you never know.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Prepareathome, I'm the same, it doesn't bother me at all to be around smokers, but would just be happier to see them vaping for their own wellbeing0
-
I got some vendor's business cards today that have a great explanation about e-cigs on the back. I have given out 3 already today to smokers that were on the same course as me. They were so interested in my e-cig and my experience of it
Obviously, at this point I was outside with the smokers because I needed a break from being in the building, that's the downside of not smoking, no excuse get away and have a proper break!0 -
I've only tried to give information to the smokers in my family, I would love them to start vaping, or give up fags, but they won't.
No ones ever asked me when I'm out about it, I wouldn't go up to someone and start telling them about vaping.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Hey Lotus, my daughter bought a cig-a-like kit for £50 just before I got into this. I think it is unused somewhere in a drawer, she won't even talk about it apart from telling me that I'm vaping more than I smoked (that would be some feat, honestly!).
My friend bought a cheap cig-a-like the same time as I did. Hers is definitely in a drawer, she told me so, as it's not the right time for her! My DH thinks I'm just on another fad while he continues to smoke 30 a day!
I gave my other friend the cig-a-like that I got hoping DH would have a shot - she's back to the cigs because of that story from america!
Not much you can do, it makes me even more determined though not to go back to the nasties0
