    Thanks for the reply.
Yes, they have taken my PD with the machine, the first thing they did. They still refused as they said they're not bound to give that information.
You're right, I have a new baby and have interrupted sleep every night.
It is negative, missed the -. :o

How much time do you give your eyes to adjust? i won't be wearing it all time, only for driving especially at night.

Actually the DO have to give you the information, it's the freedom of information act. I'd politely ask them for it then if they continue to refuse just ask for their customer services number.
What I would say is that I'm guessing you want it to purchase spectacles on the internet. Just be careful, there are other measurements needed that can only be taken from you wearing the glasses which can't be taken when buying off the net. This may not affect you as you have a small prescription but anyone even thinking of buying glasses for a higher prescription or for varifocals is just silly.

Anyway :D I recommend trying a week to two weeks to see how you get on with the new prescription. Some people know straight off if the new prescription is correct, other people need longer to adjust. The opticians should let you know this during the dispense and the collection but always ask if they don't volunteer this information.
If you have any queries then either pop into the branch or give them a ring.
I take forever to get used to a new prescription and I have lots of issues with glasses (that are terribly tedious) so don't worry if you find any problems.

    Hope this helps :D

I will ask them again, politely, when i collect my glasses.
It's simple enough to take, isn't? wearing my glasses, just mark the center of pupils, then measure from one pupil to the other.
Yes, I'd like to get a better frame somewhere else, off the internet, if there's a great deal about. They asked me if it was for internet purchase i couldn't lie :(

When I tried them they didn't feel heavy. The assistant recommended plastic frames without nose grips to solve the problem - they should know what is best as it is their job and, presumably, their expertise (not mine). As for 'knowing that such refinements exist' - I'm only guessing from researching on line the last 24 hours. I still maintain that the optician should have given better advice.

Of course it also depends on your prescription and how big a lens size you choose. That can have a significant effect on lens weight and thickness. It also affects what is available to you.

You are entitled to this information by requesting a copy of the records under the freedom of information act. They are also entitled to charge a 'reasonable' fee for reproducing said record for you.

My original post, anyway, was asking others for advice on selecting lighter glasses as I am considering buying on line. There was no need for you to infer that I am stupid (more than once) and to blame me for their poor advice.
Well then let me give you some advice on selecting lighter glasses. Go along to your local optician and hold the frames in your hand in order that you may ascertain which of those you fancy are the lightest. When you have decided which frames you want to have you can then ask the optician what the lightest weight lenses for those frames would be. Then compare the total weight with the glasses you already have and then bingo, your problem of weight making indentations will be reduced, hopefully.

Now of course should you choose to buy your spectacles from an online supplier, then none of the above options will be easily avilable to you. However, you have a choice, and what could be better than choice?

By the way, I dodn't infer that you were stupid, on one or more occasions. What I did state was that I assume that you are a sensible adult.

Oh get a life Steve and stop wasting space on here. If you can't be helpful, don't bother at all. Don't bother replying to this as I will not see it. Loser.

Just because somebody does not concur with your view of a given situation it does not mean that the advice that they offer is not helpful. These boards are open forums, designed for people to ask questions and offer opinions. If you don't care too much to be offered advice or read about somebodys opinion that does not necessarily support your own view on a given topic, then maybe this is not the place for you.
  • I had an eye test yesterday at Tesco and the total cost including my prescription glasses was only £10.00. There seems to be an offer on at the moment where the eye test is free. You pick your own frames (mine were from the value range) and the cost includes the lenses. There are extra charges for tinting etc but for a pair of basic glasses I thought this was very cheap. I hope this information helps someone.
