    Hi All

I have used Selectspecs and it took 4 weeks for them to get here and now they are here they have been improperly glazed and so are useless to me.
i emailed them a week ago and had no response AT ALL! I quite like the frames and they were great but what's the point if i can't see out the glasses.
have sent another email (via their website) and hope for a reply within the 72hrs stated but am not holding out hope and am looking at Tesco's for a pair that's £60 but that means i'll have to go without a spare!

    Hi Ziggles,

Sorry to hear about this. Regarding not receiving a reply from us, did you check your spam folders as we do reply to all emails received as soon as we can? Also, you should have received an automated reply soon after submitting the email, if you didn't receive this then it sounds like the emails are going in to your spam folder.

    Kind regards,

I did not receive the holding email last time but i did after the email sent yesterday. There was nothing in the spam folders though- as checked every day for the whole week.
I'm looking forward to the response now.

    thanks

  • I've seen a pair of designer glass frame in D&A that I really like. The frames there are £149 - add £60 for the cheapest frames and this comes to £219.

Giarre.com have exactly the same frames, and together with lenses theirs comes to about £90.

Bit wary about using them though - I think they're based in Italy and £90 is still a lot if it all goes pearshaped.

    Has anyone used them?

Message for glasses direct, i have a free trial of 4 glasses but trying to work out what the two for one includes bit confused to be honest. I think i am going to be purchasing a pair of £99 stetson frames/lens and wondered does this mean i can get two of the same stetson frames or up to the same cost or could you confirm

    Thanks

Today I received the first pair of Glasses I have ordered from Zenni Optical, I say first because it certainley won,t be the last. They arrived today With DHL 12 days after I ordered them. I can find no fault with them. They are Varifocal, Photocromic and all the coatings for less £50 inc p&p. I was quoted nearly £350 at Tesco for similar.

Does anyone know of an online retailer that caters for high CYL values? My prescription is

    -0.25 / -9.75 -3.25 / -5.50

and having just paid £335 for a new pair of lenses, a cheaper option for a spare pair/sunglasses would be good.
  • another option to buying specs online - of which there are many suppliers is to go to one one of 'factory outlet' type optical shops they look exactly the same as a 'normal opticians' but they don't test eyes there, you take you prescription in and choose your frames they then put the lenses in as detailed on your prescription they measure your pd as well - there are a number of these all around the country:

    directspecs - all over midlands

    justspecs - great yarmouth

    specsfactory - norwich, ipswich

crystaloptical - in leicester town centre

these are a half way point - not as cheap as online but a lot cheaper than 'normal opticians' and at least you can try the frames on, get them adjusted when required

i'm surprised there aren't a lot more of these shops around
  • Hi,

A question for Glasses Direct please.
I've had my eye test done and I've received a voucher from work for £55 and I've looked on your FAQs and it says you accept these :T
My question is, I'm trying to keep my costs down as looooooowww as possible and wondered if I could get my spare glasses reglazed and use this voucher? I have (I think) a low prescription and currently have vari-focals but want to get a pair of bi-focals as it's close and intermediate that I need.

Regarding bi-focals, it says that one of your opticians will ensure they are fitted correctly etc - how does this work? Would it be another opticians in my area who agree to carry out this work or does someone come to me? And if they come to me, would they come to my work address?

    Thanks muchly in advance :)

Does anyone know what comeback one has if the frames fail in 12-14 months of wear? I have 2 identical "titanium" ones bought via Tesco opticians which failed in exactly the same way at about the same wear period. (total something around 350 pounds as I have widespaced eyes, odd astigmatisms and ~-5 in spherical.)
