Yes Specsavers are a bit of a con. Their so called "two for one deals" dont apply either if you're entitled to NHS vouchers. They don't say that in the Ads...
You are incorrect.
NHS vouchers are accepted by Specsavers on their "two for one" deals. That's why they don't say in their ads that they are not accepted.0 -
Hi everyone
I am going traveling for 10 months on 21st May (just over 5 weeks' time) and I need new glasses. My idea is to keep my current frames (I splashed out on some nice Oakley frames before I became and MSEer), but change the lenses if I could. I would also be interested in getting a second back up pair (don't need to be fancy, as I say, backup) in case I lose/damage my main pair whilst away. Prescription sunglasses would also be quite helpful, as I can't wear contact lenses 24/7 (I'm looking at getting contact lenses online too, but that's for another forum I presume).
I've had a look at the Cheap Glasses MSE page, and there's some good advice, though all the information is regarding buying complete glasses (frames and lenses), can anyone tell me anything about sending off my current frames and having the lenses updated? Also, I'd just like to ask which websites are recommended by those who have used them in the past. Time is an important factor as well as keeping down costs, due to my departure date.
Thank in advance for any help0 -
The safest place to get your glasses done is still on the high street, so searching there is a good idea first, though we really can't compete with the internet on prices our service is normally better. I am a high street Optician myself so I'm bound to say this. If you must use the internet make sure it run by qualified staff and they ask for your p.d (no average figures used). When our own lab staff are off we use an internet based business to do our glazing (this is how they started, glazing for the high street, I think), they do a fine job for us and they're run professionally (they use the same lens suppliers as us too) so if the high street is too expensive try them, they're mentioned in these threads many times they're called ciliaryblue.0

Hi Violetta
I've never used them before, but thanks to you I think I might be tempted. They seem to be excellent value, have a nice range of frames and are UK based (unlike some of the online specs places who ship from all over the world) - so there should be an additional element of consumer protection. They have a 14 day money back guarantee too.
Some of their discount designer frames are stunningly priced, well worth a look.
Thanks for the heads up - let us know how you get on with them. (or I will if my order comes through first!)0 -

My husband needs new varifocals and has been quoted between £300 and £380 by the optician. are there are ways to reduce this. He wants rimless and scratch coating too. I knew they wouldn't be cheap but that seems rather high. Any advice is welcome.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

I ordered my sunglasses:cool: from Glasses4all on Wednesday night just after 11.30, got an email saying they had been dispatched at 2.30 today, which I'm impressed by. Was easy enough to place the order once I got my copy of my prescription. I'll let you know how they are when they get here.Booo!!!0

Well my sunglasses have arrived, I'm really pleased with them, they were £22 in total, £19.50 + £2.50 1st class delivery. I'm not 100%sure I would order online for glasses I would wear all day especially for a complicated prescription, but on their website there is a 14 day money back guarantee so if it's a big saving it's worth a try I'm sure you can contact them for advice. I have had another look on the website & the glasses I chose have increased in price by £7:eek:Booo!!!0

Does anyone know of any reliable next day delivery? As the baby has just snapped my mum's and she near enough blind without them! (won't mention the amount of times I tell her to have 2 pairs!)GC July: £0/£1200
