Did anyone read an article which I once read, some time ago now, I forget where, but the gist of it was, these spectacle manufacturers/makers/opticians etc etc are really making a bomb with charging the public in some cases hundreds of pounds, for what only costs a few pounds. ( never mind the accuracy, etc, - they can STILL be made cheaply and accurately, but it seems, we, the public fall for thinking we have to pay exhorbitant amounts, otherwise its not a job done properly ) ..even Specsavers agreed with the article, but the spokesperson would not allow themselves to be identified..

    Go for the cheapest !

Specsavers do a pair of single-vision spectacles, inclusive of frame and Pentax lenses for £25. How much cheaper would you like them to be?

The spectacles at £25 will be as accurate as those costing £300. In other words, whether you pay £25 for them or £300 for them they will be made in accordance with the prescription issued by the optometrist.

I think it is the costs of the addons that really rack the price up. If like me you need thinned lenses it is amazing how much that costs.

But one question I have wanted to know for ages is how come you dont seem to get black lenses in prescription sunglasses? It seems to be either brown or grey. Is there any reason why you cant get black?

If they were black they'd be opaque. You can get variations of the grey that appear black.
  • Does anyone know if you can get the NHS discount(for being on benefits) from any of the online glasses retailers?
This would be really helpful to know, before I start looking for a pair of glasses.

    thanks in advance

Yes it is. Specsavers will do it. I think they charge around £39 for doing it so you would have to weigh that cost against getting a complete new pair.

Has anybody dealt with exyeexperts.co.uk, they have some awesome deals on oakley frames, but I want them quick... relatively of course.
I ordered from them after seeing them mentioned on your post & having a look at the website, ordered a pair of single vision glasses last Thu night & they arrived this morning so has taken a week.
Pleased with the glasses but they need adjusting at the sides to fit right not sure if I can do that myself? or if an optician will be snooty if I ask them to adjust a rivals glasses.
But I'm definitely happy with new specs for £22.
Packaging was excellent, would have been nice to get an email saying they had been despatched though.
    Booo!!!
