I have nothing but praise for Ciliary Blue
I have had two frames glazed by them in the last 12 months. Fantastic service, very, very quick, (posted Friday, received back following Tuesday) and extremely good price. (and I have a high & complex prescription). If your prescription is > -8, I recommend phoning them and speaking to the optician, and he will take care of you.
D&A charged me £200 per lense, Ciliary Blue £105 for the pair.

    Hi all,

does anyone happen to know of the best place to get my glasses re-gazed either online or in store for a full rimmed pair of specs? I'd be looking ideally at 1.67 or 1.61 index lenses (my prescription is around -6.00 cly -1.25 in one eye and -5.75 and cyl -1.75). The best I've seen so far is with select specs. Ideally I'd like the metal coat on the frame touched up but I'm not sure if this can be done.

Has anyone tried just taking a can of metallic paint to their metal frames to retouch the coating and/or does anyone know of any places that offer this service? These would be just your regular scratch resistant/anti reflection jobs, not reactions or tints.

I know it might be cheaper to get a new pair of frames but I worry about whether the sizing would be right and I have plenty of existing frames that I could get refurbished.

    Thanks,

    Jo
  • I once used http://www.glassesonspec.co.uk/ to get a pair of bifocals reglazed and they were really quick. I understand Ciliary Blue are highly recommended by others for reglazing, although I have not used them myself. http://www.glasses4all.co.uk/ used by Violetta above were quick and also do reglazing (you have to call them).

If you are in the Essex area, I have used a company called Direct Specs in Basildon many times for reglazing - provided your prescription is not too complicated they can usually do it while you wait (takes about 10 minutes) - from memory a pair of single vision lenses from them was about £30.

It is easy to get the same size as your current frames - the size is on one of the arms, probably the end closest to the ear. It will read something like 52.19.135.

Has anyone tried the 1.67 Super Thin Plastic UC/MAR lens option offered by Ciliary Blue in comparison to the regular scratch resistant/anti glare option. I'm sure most specs wearers would like to cut down on the amount of cleaning we have to do to our specs- just wondering whether the UC coating is a gimmick or whether it really delivers benefits as stated on their site of 90% less cleaning??

    thanks

I've had good results from online glasses providers, having bought two previously, including from Exclusive Eyes.

Just wanted to share my latest, a poor customer experience at Designer Glasses UK.

I thought they'd be good as it was recommended, and went to them to get some bifocals done. Their website provided for all the fields necessary for both long-sighted and reading glasses information, and nowehere was it stated that they did not provide bifocal glasses. The glasses were despatched really quickly but they turned out to be only reading glasses, of the sort of quality you get from pound shops, with nasty cloudy plastic lenses. Certainly not worth £25!

In response to my concerns, I was offered a refund but only upon a £10 administrative charge, since it was stated that they provided "standard lenses" (but mind, not "ONLY standard lenses") -- so it was not their error. Is that right? Should I have known that "standard lenses" excludes bifocal lenses?? AND I must return them at my own cost within seven days of shipping.

In all, a confusing website, and a disappointing result. Proceed with care!

    Cheers

Anybody had an recent experiences with Glasses Direct or Glasses 4 All?

Wondering what delivery is likely to be in practice, as opposed to what it says in the T&C.

Really like these Jasper Conran glasses from Specsavers.

I would rather find a similar pair for less.

    Any tips?

Got a trial from Glasses Direct and they delivered them next day, but not quite what I wanted as far as frames... bah I'm too indecisive.

Has anybody dealt with exyeexperts.co.uk, they have some awesome deals on oakley frames, but I want them quick... relatively of course.

I have never seen eyeexperts before but their site looks good and I am impressed with the frames and sun glasses they do. I might order some from them. But be good to hear if anyone has ordered before.
