I saw a few nice pairs of frames in T MEXX at Brent Cross amongst the sunglasses all at £20 a pair. I asked one of the Managers if they often have glasses frames and was told frequently, but they sell real quick. Worth keeping an eye on the stand if you have a T Mexx nearby and if a pair suits get them re-glazed. I have used Ciliary Blue and am very happy with them, service is great.

Just bough some specs from Spex4less.com. I went for a cheap pair to see how they would fit. They cost me £72 and to be honest not very happy with the quality and as going to send them back. Frame is crooked and the noose bridge is lobsided.
Last pair I brought were from the internet were from spexmaniac but they have closed down unfortunatly. These were really good quality and only cost £18. D&A wanted to charge me £200 for a pair of specs.
  • The MAR/UC coating is wicked, it can be added to transitions lenses though, but the cost is higher as the transitions come from essilor and they have to be coated by another process.

How much are we looking at here, for the MAR/UC coating to be placed upon an Essilor transitions lens? If it is genuinely worth the effort, and it'd stop me getting frustrated by flecks of dust on my lenses, then I'm prepared to go for it!

WANTGLASSES, more like want rubbish. .

I totally agree with you. I am still having problems with this company and would warn everyone against using them. I was firstly told I would receive my glasses in 4 days but nothing came!! So after a week I rang them and was told that my order was being completed and would be sent out the next day by first class recorded. Still nothing arrived. So after another phone call apparently they hadnt been sent out but would be that night so I would get them in the morning. Surprise surprise nothing arrived. So I made yet another phone call and was told that "the royal mail must have lost them"!!? Anyway I was told that they would make me another pair and I was guaranteed that I would receive them by the Wednesday. Guess what, I didn't get them. I then rang up and cancelled my order and requested a refund. That was over a week ago. They told me it would take three working days to get my money but it has now been nearly a week and still no refund. Ive contacted citizens advice and if my refund doesnt come through I will be taking further action.

I have been told constantly that this whole farce has been a one off with my order but that would be more believable if I had my money back into my account, as this is all I am bothered about now. I will update on if this happens though.

At the moment I would tell people to stay clear of this company. If you look at all the good reviews of wantglasses.co.uk on these forums they all seem to be by the same people??

Anyway all I want now is my money back and for other people not to have to go through this!
  • Does anyone know if there is any difference between display frames (ones you can try on in the shops) and standard frames (the ones you actually get)? There seem to loads of designer display frames on ebay really cheap from old optical stock and it seems to me that the only difference is packaging and a branded case!

    regards,

Right, looked at the prices for replacement lenses (I'd like to keep my frames) in opticians round town. Thin, anti-reflective lenses are £100 in specsavers or £80 in a nice local optician; sadly, I think I'll go for specsavers cause they can replace lenses the same day (the local shop would send them away for a week or so, which does not appeal...) So, unless anyone has reasons to avoid specsavers...or can suggest anything much cheaper online, think I'll get the new lenses there and maybe look for some cheap shades online...
  • I posted the following in a previous thread:

"I have been looking for 1.67 lenses for reglazing and the best prices appear to be from http://www.specs-by-post.com/store/p...idproduct=1161 , http://www.ciliaryblue.com/pricelist.html and http://www.vitaoptical.co.uk/reglaze-glasses-53.html. I have not used any of them so any recommendations would be appreciated. "

sent my glasses to specs-by-post on monday and get them back today! I'll tell you the results.

    Regards

If you want really cheap glasses try Zenni optical. They are shipped from Hong Kong, & I will admit the frame quality at their cheaper end is not as good as UK high street. I have only had single vision lenses which have been perfectly fine. Shipping to the UK is $9 for however many you order. I tried them out first by ordering 2 pairs of their cheapest plastic frames - came to the grand sum of £13, & arrived within a few weeks very carefuly packaged. No complaints with these, so I then ordered a pair of rimless, one plastic frame, & plastic framed sunglasses, all for £29.50. I wear glasses all the time & like to vary my look, so this way I can get several different styles. So what if they don't turn out to be as durable, I'll probably be bored of the style by then anyway!

I agree Zenni are good value and i have bought several pairs of specs from them including OH varifocals with magnetic sunshades, but on the downside they're not quick replying to emails. They prefer phone calls but these are a tad expesive to SanFransisco from Spain or UK (I guess)
  • ..from specs by post and it was a pretty smooth service. Sent on Monday back on friday. I would recommend them.
