Got my free eye test done today as my HC2 form runs out on Monday.
I need glasses, but not to wear all the time. My left eye is poorer than my right and I spend loads of time in front of a computer screen!
Basically they sat me down, gave me my presription and vaguely explained the lenses were free and then took me round the frames all over £100!
What are the NHS frames like? Or how much of a voucher do I get off others? They didn't write anything on the form regarding this.
Thanks!0 -
I've never had glasses before but went for my free, NHS eye test (apparently this is only scotland?) one month ago, and still don't have correctly prescribed glasses. They got it almost completly wrong the first time as it turns out from the retest results, but even the second pair are wrong.
What should I do? Get a refund for the glasses (£99 for two, plus ultraclear on both total £144) what about the eye test, where do i go for reliable eye test?
I'm booked in for a THIRD eye test with specsavers...
Thanks for the help0 -
Can some one help with PD please. My friend wants me to order some varifocals on line, no problem there have done this before for OH. However friend's prescription gives PD as follows Right 33.5 near 31, left 32.5 near 30. I have never seen it written like this before. What do I put on online form please0

The 31 and 30 figures are relevant to reading distance and are not required for varifocals. Therefore you should input the following figures on the online form:
Right 33.5
Left 32.50 -
Thanks Steve, but there is room on the PD part of form for only 1 figure, so should I just add them together and put 660

There is a different measurement for each eye, therefore the site should allow you to state both numbers. The consequence of not being able to state both measurements means that the lens centres wont be accurate. This could lead to blurring, double vision and/or eyestrain. Most peoples' eyes aren't the same distance apart and this is why both measurements are needed.
Perhaps you ought to use another site.0 -
Hi can anyone help?
I purchased from a high street opticians Polaris glasses, they cost some £240 2 years ago (after using discounts available at the time). I need to change the lenses - I am happy with the rimless frames I have and they have quoted me £430:huh:. They have also advised either next year or soon there after I will need varifocals and will have to change them again! I have tried searching the web for a company to replace my lenses but they seem only to replace lenses for rimmed or semi rimless frames.
Also the current lenses have a fault with the coating, which the opticians have verified but have stated they can only change the lenses like for like i.e not to my new prescription under guarantee and I would be without any glasses for 2 weeks!
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.0 -

a few years ago I did two mystery shops at vision express and by coincidence had just had a test myself at a local opticians, all three tests were slightly different results. Recently an optician told me that to an extent it depends what we reply to the questions like "clearer with, clearer without" etc etc. I would try an eyetest elsewhere and then decide what to do about a refund etc.0 -

I also had a problem with the coating on my Polaris rimless specs. Luckily, my prescription hadn't changed too much so the lenses were changed free of charge. Eventually, one lens was accidentally damaged. To my delight the insurance company agreed to pay replacement value for the frame as well as the lenses. This was because the opticians do not want to take the risk of ruining the frames during reglazing. For once, the premium for reglazing rimless worked in favour of the customer!
I then had the old frames reglazed at Cilary Blue, who did a great job. You don't get Polaris style bevelled edges, but then you don't pay Polaris prices, either.0 -
The arms of my old rimless frames (circa 1998) have loosened, and the gold plating is wearing off, but the nose bridge is unchanged. I was hoping that perhaps spare arms could be ordered, but the price came as a shock - barely cheaper than buying the complete set. Does anyone know of a supplier that sells spare parts for rimless glasses?0
