  • I ordered one pair of prescription sunglasses from http://www.goggles4u.com/ and while I was waiting for them to arrive I decided that the price was so good I would order another pair of standard glasses. As a repeat customer I would also benefit from the 15% discount stated on the site.

I have never received the 15% discount.

The sunglasses arrived and the lenses are different colours!

The plastic framed glasses arrived and are not balanced so they sit wonky on my head.

The company has not replied to my complaint. Therefore, with no other choice, I took the risk and was able to soften the frame of the glasses over a gas burner and mould them into the correct shape. The sunglasses are useless though.

There is obviously no form of quality checking in this company so I certainly won't be using them ever again.
  • Is there a comparison site or any way of checking which high street opticians have the best offers on at the moment? I dont think my prescription has changed since last year, so I just want new glasses. If there is a bogof offer on, I would like some sunglasses too.

    Any suggestions?
  • I have never bought glasses online - at the optician I always have a problem getting glasses with a long enough arm - big head, I suppose!
Does anyone know if any of the online suppliers cater for larger sizes?
    Thanks!

The only thing I could suggest is glasesdirect have a 'try the frames at home for 14 days' scheme. Only problem is it's £3.75 (although there's 52p Quidco! :D ) but it includes all postage.

In addition to the previous poster's valid response, I would also look at the measurements of the frame you are looking for. If you have a pair of glasses already, you may want to use the mearurements of those as a starter for ten, so to speak! The measurements will be written on the arm, or side as it's more accurately called. You can see what the measurements mean here.

I would imagine that you wouldn't want to have a side length less than 135mm and perhaps 140mm and up would be what you are aiming for. You should also think about the width of the frame. If you consider yourself a bit of a 'big-head', so to speak:eek: , I would also advise looking at the frame width. Again, you can measure your current specs to give you an idea.

I work for Fashion Specs Direct and these are the sort of questions we handle daily and appreciate that it can be worrying when buying your new glasses on the 'net.

As with the previous post, I agree that it's a good idea to try on the glasses at home. Fashion Specs Direct provide this service and refund the frame cost when you send them back. More here if you're interested. It's the best way, short of trying them on in a store, to check them for comfort and fit if you have any concerns at all in this area.
  • Hi,

I work for nuglasses, you could try looking with us too. All you need to do is type 140mm into the search for box and it will bring up all the frames with that in the description, we have quite a few.

We can also send out trial frames if you are not sure, so it's definitely worth a look.

Hope you find what your after. :T

  • Has anyone used Metsuki for prescription glasses before. Some glassses after having my eye test today, and the above company do the frames for £50 less.
    Thanks

  • Question for any posters who work for High St or online opticians/spec makers! I have a problem with the fit of glasses across the bridge. I have a very narrow nose and, therefore, my eyes are quite near together! Wherever I have tried in the past there just seems to be two bridge widths so I have never had a good fit. Anybody know if anybody does a small bridge 'cos surely I'm not the only one with this problem?! Thanks for any info!

You could try Lindberg, who do extra small bridges in two different shapes, but they are expensive. With the dollar being low at the moment they work out cheaper if ordered from the 'States.
