Luckily I withdrew all-but-£100 of my money from Kaupthing just weeks before the crisis due to other reasons.

For the remaining £100, would I be better off trying to get it out ASAP but risk it disappearing into a black hole which could potentially be a lot of hassle? ... or to leave it until the current issues have settled down?

    Any advice anyone?

My advice would be to leave it where it is and keep the account available. From where I sit ING have kept a cool head throughout this episode. They have not been panicked by threats of "going to the media" etc. The have worked steadily but surely to get peoples money back to them and now have it down to tens, from tens of thousands accounts awaiting finalising. Banking needs a sure hand at the helm and I think this is what ING have clearly demonstrated they have. Alistair Darling showed great faith in them by handing over the KE accounts and ING have shown that they were up to the job. Keep the faith, your money is in good hands.

I'm sure theres quite a few - Hundreds even on this thread alone who would disagree whole heartedly with that assessment

I for one still have a substantial ammount left in my account. I will however be closing the account within the coming week/s once I'm confident that everyone here has been paid out & some sort of normal business resumes

    OTR
    Non illigitamus carborundum!!
  • I'll second that bjorn_again, though I truly sympathise with the many who have had\are having a nightmare experience with their BACS\CHAPS transfers.

If only ING had come out at the very beginning of all this & told us the whole truth, I'm sure they would have been in a much stronger position. They didn't however, and for that reason, I will not be doing business with them

Each to their own though ;-)

Another thing to consider is that if ING do happen to go under, claims would have to be made through the Dutch compensation scheme - Up to 100,000 Euro I believe

  • Afternoon all, just picking up the thread from where I last read it on Friday morning before going away, and it seems there has been joy for quite a few people PHEW. Fingers crossed the last 44 (?) will be getting the BEST news tomorrow. The limbo this puts you in is awful and seems to take over every waking and sleeping moment, but the relief when it comes good is wonderful, quite euphoric! Crazy when it's our money, and yet it feels like winning the lottery!! How mad is that?
Will be supporting till the last man is crossed off the list, as others supported me. Isobella.
