I have changed my electricity supplier to BG 37.59p per day standing charge and 9.77 kWh today - 01162 00 8382 Gary. My rate with E4B used to be 44.69p per day and 8.080 p/kWh. Lucky I got my rebate of £1067 on 15/10/08 before they went belly up. I have cancelled my direct debit. Service was bad with E4B.0

Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place but my first time!
We are a small company who paid E4B by direct debit throughout the summer and have ended up with a credit balance of approximately £500 supposedly to offset the winter months. However I am told we have very little chance of getting our money back.
If there is a large number of people who owe E4B money - where will they pay it to and could it not be used for paying poor people like us? It seems wrong that the ones that owe will get away with it but we are left being owed.
Simplistic, maybe, but upset and angry definitely.0 -

What a fxxxxg mess ..
I ave 5 accs with E4B.. mthly payments were £418.27 ....Oct they took £1042.75 ....
Any one Know the situation with DD gaurantee scheme re notice of change to payment amt ..or have we all signed variable amount contracts ?
Been on the phone all day trying to sort new supplier .....to brokers and direct to suppliers ...
There seems to be a lot of b/s floating around out there .....brokers quoting emegency rates of 26p upto 39p per unit .....i just got it confirmed that my "emergency rate" is 12.55xvat / 14.47incvat per unit ....
also rates quoted for bg deal are 12.53p unit 38.79ppday ...just got offered 9.53p per unit and 26p pday ........12mth deal .
Round 1 over ...tomorrow we shall talk again and see if we cant get a better deal!
Anyone else got a better price ??
The Rodent
Edit ..i have had 6 calls from "Business Save calling on behalf of British gas" ...if you get a call from these jokers just put the phone down(they do not work for british gas they are using b/s scare tactics to get an instant 12 mth commitment to a very poor deal ...a one trick pony ...altho they will tell you they have "searched the market place for the cheapest deal ...they havent ..they only have one deal...which is NOT a good one).
Best prices are coming directly from suppliers NOT brokers ...take the brokers price then call the supplier direct to get a better price quoted .....
The same thing is happening to utility brokers as has happened to mortgage brokers ..ie. companies are giving a much better deal direct to customer than is given to broker to try and "flog "to you ...
Dont let brokers have your trousers down call supplier direct ..
Target price on a 03(first no in top left box of supply no on bill) single rate supply should be 9p-13p max xvat
How do i know all this ? I used to be a utility broker (a proper one)My posts are my opinion which is neither right nor wrong.0 -
I have just found out about this. E4B have taken my direct debit on th 28th oct. Luckily my bank has said it will be credited back to my account.
Also british gas has beaten the rate I was paying with e4b on a 2 year deal.0 -
I was also caught up in E4B and prices seem to be falling this week, but I still signed up for BGB at 9.64KwH and 29p/day. We're a 17 bedroom B&B and use about 35-55 Kwh/year, which is a lot! So my next project is to start to track down where all this electricity is going!
BGB called me as they are all E4B ex-customers, and initially quoted 11.94p but I fibbed and said I'd been offered 9.8p by somebody else. Somebody earlier said that the suppliers are cheaper than brokers and I think this is true. Last year I read that brokers get 5-7% or so from the electric co, so I think they've decided to cut out the middleman.

Ignore these idiots, i checked with my broker and Ofgem have clearly stated anyone in an old E4B contract is free to leave and join any new supplier as long as your bill with E4B is pain in full. Make sure you shop around and look for deals though,as the BG rates from next month with probably be really high!!
I used ESP brokers,a guy called nathan, they swopped me over to Haven power no problem- despite the lurid threats from BG!! There number is 0151 236 0099.
Hope this has helped anyone lese that has received nasty calls from BG over the last few days:j
As a broker working with both companies I am aware of the prices that are being offered by each. If you are trying to keep costs to a minimum cancel the Haven Power contract and call British Gas Business back.
BGB have been offering what could be considered to be loss leading contracts all week and I have seen prices as low as 9.5p kwh. Any possible saving you will achieve by moving to Haven Power is going to be eaten up by the non contract price of 14.75p kwh for the next 5 weeks.
Seriously its not worth the change, you will be able to push them for the price.0 -

I am amazed that as an energy broker you would be encouraging people to break a commercial contract. If you have agreed (verbally or otherwise) a contract with a new supplier then you are in contract. Your new supplier would have gone to market and purchased your energy.
If you then agree to stay with British gas business expect a hefty cancellation fee from your new supplier. These cancellation fees can run into thousands of pounds and you will be chased with them.

" Watch out for “win back” calls from energy suppliers, energywatch warns small businesses
Energywatch

Small businesses who have switched from British Gas Business (BGB) and agreed terms with a new supplier are getting last minute sales calls from BGB offering to beat the competition’s new deal.
Business consumers are complaining to consumer watchdog energywatch that they have been charged penalties by their new supplier when accepting a new deal by British Gas.
Paul Savage, Business Services Manager for energywatch said: “We are all for business consumers getting a better deal, but only if they are not penalised for changing their mind.
“Where a business has agreed to move suppliers, even over the phone, the new supplier is entitled to enforce their new contract, even before they have actually taken over the supply. As a result, small businesses can easily find themselves tied into two contracts with different suppliers at the same time and at the risk of paying substantial penalties.” John Holbrow, Energy Policy Chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses says “British Gas know full well that small businesses can’t get out of these contracts and
we would ask them to stop their hard sell techniques. Loopholes in the current gas and electricity legislation mean that small businesses have to fend for themselves.” energywatch is pressing the energy regulator Ofgem to increase protection to small businesses and representation of the rights of this consumer group.
“In the meantime”, advises Paul Savage, “small businesses should be very wary of win back calls. They might ask themselves why their old supplier didn’t offer them such a good deal while they were still in contract with them. The deal may not be so good if they factor in the extra costs of terminating their new contract”.0 -

Quite agree. You should check the T's & C's of any agreement with Haven Power before agreeing to remain with British Gas.
I believe there is no cooling off period with Haven and they will persue a termination fee if an agreed contract does not go live because of winback calls.0 -
Do I win a prize?
Owed £2600 + As dd payments where to high and they refused to change them for the first year!.
Am a small two man business and will struggle to recover from this sort of 'loss' (unless the administrators pay out).
Still at least I can post the loss against tax???0
