Hi Sharon 59, Magenta and anyone else this applies to.

I was wondering if it might be possible to either PM you or start another thread as this will be going off topic and I know how frustrating it can be when posts are hi-jacked :o.

I'll keep this short. I'm just awaiting confirmation following yet another blood test, that I carry a faulty gene for breast cancer. I'm not being fatalistic here, it would be very odd if I didn't considering there's a long involved story attached - much better tackled either in another thread or off-list.

A possible double mastectomy has been mentioned in the past, but I had always been optimistic, thinking I might just as possibly have inherited my dad's good genes as my mum's duff ones;) - but this doesn't now seem likely.

I could really do with some advice from you ladies, if it a) isn't too much bother and b) isn't too painful for you to discuss.

If you could let me know which would be best, either PM's or a new thread - I would be very grateful.

    Thanks,
    Unity

Thank you so much for offering your support and for reading my tirade.
I have had another bad night tossing and turning. I am due to see my GP on Thursday morning as I had a blood test to check my kidney function and need to see her about the results. I also have high blood pressure and cholesterol and the blood pressure tablets can apparently affect kidney fun ction.
I am also due to see a consultant early in December for the results of a CT scan on my lower back to try and find the cause of the sciatica.
I haven't been able to sit down in the bath for more then a year as I fell backwards the last time due to severe knee pain when I was trying to get out. I just missed banging my head on the back of the bath and hubby had to come and haul me out. I now sit on a plastic foot stool in the bath and wash but I yearn to be able to lie down in some some nice bubbly hot water.
Feeling like this day and night just wears me down as it is nine years since this all started.
It is truly unbeleivable just how many of us are having our lives affected by aches and pains and not being as mobile as we would like. I don't go out alone anymore as i am too scared of having another fall.
Have a good day everyone. The sun is shining here and that cheers me up.
And thanks again for your words of support.

    :A

Hi Parsonswife, I really feel for you with the dreams, mine are horrific and DH has been punched and kicked on many occasions because of them. I hope that not only can they find a cause for your sciatica - but also a cure ;). I had a transforminal epidural for this which helped a little, but due to a bony growth and vertebrae which have fused themselves together - it didn't flow as the surgeon had hoped.

Would a bath seat help? I don't have one (mostly a shower girl ;)) but Social Services should be able to get you one with an OT's referral. I mean the ones that are electric and raise and lower you in the bath.

As to BP - mine was always, always on the low side, until the end of last year when it suddenly doubled for no good reason. I'm now taking Lisinopril for this and was taking Ezetimibe for cholesterol since I couldn't take the statins but unfortunately I got bad side effects with that as well so my doc advised me to stop.

How many of you lovely people think an accident typically a road traffic accident started this? I had an accident in Aug 2000 and started getting pains just afer that.

I have been doing so well recently but had a guy run into me yesterday and my car is a write off so it was a big bang, today I am hurting everywhere and I know tomorrow will be worse.

I hope you are feeling better after your shunt. Initially I think mine was caused after walking back from school aged 12 when I was attacked by a boy in my class weilding a brick:eek:. I had concussion and was blind for two days (plus nine stitches in my scalp) - the dreams and the intense fatigue started after this. Of course those were the days when the situation was handled by the school and discipline equalled the headmaster's cane. If it had happened these days he would have ended up in court with a criminal record instead of being quite high up in the police service :rotfl:. He'll get a good pension and I'll have DLA - I wonder if he even remembers .

Well, I am relieved to know that some people also get the itching burning bruising thing! But does anybody else get this burning all over the body?

I itch all over - even down my throat at times. I don't know if it is due to FMS as I've got neurological complications too. I also have arachnoiditis (cause = failed lumbar punctures) that has me thinking there's a swarm of spiders crawling all over me.

never had that Bigzippy but somewhere amid the brain fog lve read about it-may have been on the FMuk site.
Can l be brave and ask about a rather embarrasing symptom -anyone got leaky bladder problem with the fibro?
not that l have of course just asking for a friend !!!!

My bladder problems these days are the opposite - I want to go but can't . I'm often up four or five times a night because of this I saw a urologist a few years ago and had tests that showed my bladder wasn't emptying properly. I had to learn to self-catheterise to make sure my bladder emptied properly. I was also needing to go before my bladder was full - so a bladder stretch was performed under a GA. Unfortunately my bladder tore during the procedure, so I came round on a drip with a catheter fitted. These days it is as if my brain is trying to turn the 'tap' on - but the 'tap' is stuck :rotfl:.

  • Hi Unity:hello:

I've got used to bathing on the perch now. I can stand and shower but I have always been a bath person.
My blood pressure has gone down quite a bit, but I got the dreaded dry, tickly cough from the Ramipril so that has now been changed to Cozaar/ losartan potassium and my Citalopram has been doubled to 40mg.
Also have been sent for an xray of my left knee which is a bit swollen and sore, having had about 8 falls and landing on it each time.
Back to the GP in 10 days time for results and another blood pressure check.
Hope you are having a good day today.
    :D

  • Goodness me! All that has been happening in my absence!

S/E, did you let off any fireworks to go along with your fire?! I'm amazed at how relaxed you are about the whole thing. Bet you weren't at the time! Please to hear that you're getting central heating as that will make things a more comfortable temperature for you I hope.

Magenta. What an awful time you have had and what a lot to have had to cope with.

BigZippy. Sorry to hear you aren't doing so well at the moment. Stay nice and warm and shout if you want me to make you a cup of tea :D

NearlyRich. Never rains but it pours eh? Hope you get something sorted out soon.

Sharon59. My friend has the same problem. Don't make me laugh too hard when I'm not in the safety of my home!
I have been getting up at least twice a night for the last year or so, but have found that the following works for me.

I go to the loo when I'm about to go to bed and then go round doing the things like turning off lights, clear the sofa and then before actually going to bed I go to the loo again. Since I've done this, I've had three nights when I haven't had to get up which has been bliss.

If I've missed anyone, it isn't intentional - not ignoring honest!

Have been to see Cardiologist today and am going to have 24 hr monitor to see if I can recreate the dodgy heart rate that makes me pass out. I did ask him if he wanted me to fall and break my elbow like last time too, but he wasn't so keen on that idea.
My naughty side is thinking, hmmm 24 hr heart monitor, what should I do? RollerCoaster? Horror Film, Haunted House? :D I have a deplorable excess of naughtiness I'm afraid :D

Yes, I do get hiccups. But only if I've been drinking :D Tut, tut Big Zippy, no wonder you're in bed!

People haave mentioned on this thread that they can be a little lonely, particularly if they live alone like me. anyone who wants to strike up a conversation anytime, do feel free to PM me. I've started "talking" to quite a few people through this site, including a lass in the North who I swap books with as we have similar taste!

It's been chilly cold and raining all day here, so I may go and admire the plumber whilst he's bending down, to brighten my day

You're feeling cheeky today then eh?
I'm sure I've told you before, your life is now through this forum - not the other way round... sheesh!

I'm glad they're taking your dodgy heart rate into account. I told my GP about it, and I get weird dodgy flutters too, and he seemed completely nonplussed. He did get a little monitor gadget out, to be fair to him, and test me on it, but of course our symptoms can't be summoned on command...

Maybe the hiccups are some sort of meds/alcopop clash? ;):D
I wouldn't mind if I even did drink!! OH gets *very* embarrassed sometimes when I'm hobbling round Asda with the loudest most ridiculous hiccups known to man!

Ditto. Cos I'm a saddo, and have lots of time. :p

It's not just chilly though CwtA - it's bitterly C.O.L.D.!! I've had to put the heating on now... but not got out of bed yet... ;) Maybe when Neighbours comes on....?

    What's ATB? I might be a geek, but I'm not a nerd ;)

    :D

The idea of a bathing 'perch' conjures up pictures of an African Grey or even a Norwegian Blue parrot :rotfl:with a shower head clutched in its beak :D. it has been one of those days.

I had faxed my doc with some worrying symptoms as I couldn't get an appt. to see him till next Tuesday - so he rang me to say he wanted to see me this afternoon - no argument:eek:. Anyway he did a set of tests and reckons my bulging disc is bulging even more. My reflexes are very brisk, but there's a lack of sensation in my right leg compared to my left. So he thinks I should see a surgeon. I have to take a urine sample in tomorrow just to check it's not an infection making me think I want to go - only to find out I can't.

This was me attempting to catch up with everyone and no doubt failing miserably - but I too am not ignoring anyone intentionally ;). Sorry to hear you are feeling the cold - that's about the only thing that hasn't bothered me today!

I too am feeling zombied - I think it's because I've taken Zopiclone two nights in succession to try and get a decent dream free sleep. The only problem is that I then start having these weird little episodes during the day - probably only seconds long where I just find myself in a dream then I end up talking rubbish - no change there then :rotfl:.

Freshly squeezed just for you, M'lady :D Just wondering what kind of shock I could give you to stop hiccups, but decided that would just be cruel.

ATB is my lazy way of saying "All The Best".

Plumber has left the building til tomorrow but I'm wondering if I could sneak a digital camera around when he's back :D

Unity, you made me think of the Parrot lying in the bath pining for the fyords

I promised myself I wouldn't write a novel this post, so I'll catch you all later on no doubt.

    Stay warm everyone.
