Hi Code-a-holic. Welcome. :) And congratulations! :j
I'm intrigued, as I'll be getting married (quiet guys ;)) in September and OH is using scary phrases like "this'll be no good when we have kids" in a less than for off sense  I really want kids but I'm scared, to put it bluntly. I've read on some threads that Fibro symtoms can decrease/virtually disappear during the pregnancy and sometimes into the breast feeding...have you found this at all? The other thing I'm worried about is keeping up with kids while I'm so knackered and weak. So I guess my question really is: how do you manage?

    Hello.
Congratulations to you too!! My Fibro seems to have developed during my 2nd pregnancy... it was only then we realised how much damage the car accident had done. I never complain about the tiredness although it is there! it the pain that gets me the post. During that pregnancy i was on crutches - but the labour was almost unfelt. Seems to be common for fibro mums - it helps with labour. It was then a great shock when my 3rd child was concieved 6 weeks after having my 2nd son. So i didnt get a chance to recover, but didnt get too much worse despite having 2 under 3's. I have a fantastic husband who takes on a lot at home. The labour for child 3 was easy! She arrived in to my knickers with no pain. Thanks Fibro! But since then i sometimes think the children have a lot to put up with but they are very independant and have learned to hassle daddy for rolling around the floor! I have regular fainting episodes, its my body's way of saying 'ENOUGH'. I havnt lay flat for 4 years as my hip falls out of the socket and i get 'stuck'. So the children have learned to put up with it all!
Writing that im wandering why im subjecting another child to this! Its really not that bad as a whole, we do manage quite well, and i think the children help to stop the Fibro getting any worse, they say keeping active helps relieve symptoms and they certainly do that.

    Hi Pamaris
I soon got used to it and it stopped doing much and I was going to stop taking it, that was when my Rheumi told me to take Tramadol with it, apparently he'd been to a Rheumi conference and seen a talk on Fibro by a specialist who reccomended Pregabalin, tramadol and amy, Ive since been on these three and they do take the edge off the pain which is better than nothing.

Thanks Sue. I am unsure about the Pregabalin, but am also after Tramadol from my GP because I've heard so many good things about it. In January I'm going to call for an appointment; I hope she'll go for it now that I have a diagnosis.

It seems like everyone who takes Pregabalin experiences some general weirdness at some point? Saying that, don't we all experience that sometimes anyway . I think I'll start the meds on Boxing Day.

The Tramadol is good for pain relief as it stops the pain signals to/from the nervous system in the spine (from what I understand) although it can make people feel spacey. It made me really spacey when I combined it with Diclofenac.

The pregabalin 75mg x2 daily plus Amitriptyline 20mg x1 worse well for me (providing I'm not too naughty!) and will top up with various painkillers as and when. A Gp at my surgery told me last night that I'm in the bottom third so far as using meds available for Fibro...what that quite means I'm not sure, but generally the perception was that there was more dosage and/or meds available to me should I need them. I suspect it goes from me or under to Unity's sort of level, with the morphine patches. Anyway, he said I could take an extra tab of Ami (10mg) as and when I wanted if I was having a bad day...but my reservation with that is that I took an extra 5mgs the other night (cos I couldn't find my 10mgs tabs) and the day after I was reeeeally sleepy and lethargic/down. If that's what 25mgs was like then what would 30 be like?! I used to be on 50mgs too!!

I think starting them on Boxing Day when you're on wind down from Christmas sounds like a sensible idea :)

Glad to have you back Raeh :) And glad you've finished for Christmas and can have a chance to rest up for a change!! :xmassmile

It is really sore actually and I thought it might be ok...but it's still really sore, I can't put weight on it (which is making the ball of my foot really sore and bruised feeling now :() and when I checked it not so long ago it had bleed through the dressing...if it's no better tomorrow I'll ring the OOH service or something. I suspect they'll make me go to the walk in centre (oh the irony ;)) though and I really don't wanna have to wait in there. The seats are so uncomfortable and I've still goes loads to do!

I've been helping MIL2B tonight to do the tree etc and finish writing cards and do pressie wrapping etc (she's 3/4 blind). I'm soooooooo tired it's unreal. I just want OH to finish work so I can go get him and give up for the night. *yawn*

Thankyou for your kind words:p .

The stress over the last few days has been phenomenal my husband isnt sleeping well because of the fibro as it is and all the worry has not been helping, his symptoms have progressively gotten worse!!

From what i can gather the Doctor who did his medical assesment for IB certainly did not have much experience of Fibro and certainly has not helped our case. I think the main problem is that because he couldnt see any outward signs of a disability he has written my husband off and i certainly dont think he listened to my husband explaining the pain he goes through each day and the struggle he has to do every day tasks without wiping himself out.

Hopefully the CAB will be able to help us and we can have a relativley stress free christmas for the sake of our children.

good luck at cab mummy . i have fibro which came about after a bad accident at work dmaged neck and shoulder , but lucky have a understanding doctor. at my I.B.medical assesment he said, did i had bad ankles as was limping ... just painfull hips and knees that day .. fell on top of his desk during balancing test so he gave up doing any more ! after all that his report was crap ! lucky my docter had put me through lots at the hospital , so had letters saying lack of balance is nothing to do with ear/nose/throught, physio said unable to do any more as makes it worse, and 4 good medical reports from different consultant orthopaedic surgeons did the trick at last , :snow_laug but what stress just to do that . :rudolf: need a year just to recover :A

I have FM, was diagnosed just under 3 years ago. I'm 26 and have managed to go back to work full time (teaching). I can't do much else apart from that, so my OH is pretty much the caregiver, cook etc. The fatigue is really getting to me at the moment, but then again I was also diagnosed with ME and an underactive thyroid.

Have any of you with FM seen Professor Davies? I'm hoping for a referral to him, just changed GP surgeries as the last one I felt as though I wasn't being listened to.

I try and pace as much as I can, I think that's why teaching is a good job for me, as in Secondary School we have the separate lessons. My workplace is very supportive, especially compared to the last one who wanted me gone as soon as my symptoms got bad.

yes i've seen prof Davies 2 times very good, well worth going i went private it was quicker to see him

  • Just wondering where Prof Davies is based? Just out of curiosity as I think Mum may have been to see him at some time.

BZ, get thee to a Doc today please! Your heel needs treatment spesh if it's still bleeding. Waiting another day will only increase possibility of infection.
The water balloon was just cruel. At least my joke didn't soak you! Just straightened my hair too.
I got a new pair of straighteners from Freecycle as mine were the old huge, heavy old fashioned ones. Now, instead of taking half an hour to do my hair, it takes about 10 mins! Bonus. Having it cut and coloured on Monday as roots (i.e. grey) showing through.

Raeh, I'm pleased you'll now get a chance to wind down a little and hope youremember to treat yourself gently for a few days before getting up and at them.

My To Do list is now several sides of A4, so I think I may give up and say sod it. Tis only Sis staying whilst I'm away and she knows what I'm like.

That being said, there is a teeny tiny chance I have have to cancel hols as Sis has developed Cellulitis again. She is due to pick up Aunt and Cousin at airpost of Xmas Day and if she isn't well enough, I'll have to cancel hols and go up and collect the lot of them. Pooh.
I'm hoping it won't happen. It will be disappointing, but not the end of the world, eh.
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

  • Afternoon folks. Back again after a grotty couple of days.

CwtA - can't someone else do the collecting if Sis is unable to drive? Seems very unfair that you have to cancel your hols because of it.

Oh, and someone (who shall remain nameless) asked me to put this up. I've just spent an interesting half an hour setting up an account.

This is the recently finished cardigan:

And this is the one I'm working on now - 4 ply is nice once it's done, but it don't half take a lot of knitting to get there.

That's the start of the back - it should have a pattern all the way through, but I'm only going to put the border on, and then do the pattern up the front. It could take some time, even with doing most of it in stocking stitch.

  • Hey, nice to see you back s/e. Hope you're recovering. That knitting is seriously impressive! It makes me think of giving up before I've even started *grin*.

Spoke to Sis earlier and she's actually a lot better and on two lots of anti-flybotics, so fingers crossed I'll be OK to go.

Ended up being out visiting for far longer than envisaged, so have got nothing done and am only just eating lunch.

    Never mind.
