    I do!

I used to find it horrible. I would recommend looking at it as a holiday (I know it's hard) and working out what hobbies you would take up if you were retired or whatever. Find some hobbies - whether it be something crafty (cross-stitch, latch-rug making (very easy and enjoyable IMO), painting, whatever) or something more like researching your family tree (which gets you in contact with loads of random relatives and makes it more exciting to check your email/post and answer your phone :)) or something else entirely. I think if you've got something to look forward to doing when you get up, or something to look forward to getting back to your couch so you can do, then it makes a huge difference to your day and then your week and so on.

I also have the magic of Facebook and have gotten back in touch with mates and made new mates (friends or relatives of friends) - including my hubby to be! - which can keep you occupied talking to them whether on Facebook or on messenger. I would be lost without it to be honest, or I would've been last year :)

If you get DLA or something then it might be worth using at least a bit of it to get someone round doing cleaning for you so that you can spend your time doing things that are enjoyable rather than lying in bed wondering how long you can put off doing something grim.

And my advice would be to try and have at least a day or two set a week where you see a particular friend or something, so you know that even though you have a lot of time on your own, you always know there's something coming up that will keep you social, iyswim?

I hope that helps? I was terribly lonely last year, I felt like all my friends had dropped off the face of the planet once they'd grasped the idea that I was chronicly (sp?) ill and wouldn't be recovering anytime soon, so would be pretty much permanently affected by what I could and couldn't do with them... My point is, I know what it's like and I've managed to come out, relatively, the other side so I'm confident that you can too :)

i do, well apart form the cats that own me. i wouldnt cope without the internet tbh. i have made some good friends on various forums over the years, and even a few by chating while playing literatti or other random games. there is always someone to talk to, or a thread in a forum to read and reply to, even if no one is online right at the moment.
  • Roxsi, I feel for you. You have lots of friends here, but when you're awake at 3am with things going round your mind, it doesn't feel like it eh?

bz has talked a lot of sense ( ). Even I may take a little of her advice as it's bluddy sound :D

I don't know how long you've been feeling like this, but I've found after my 5 years of isolation, you kinda get used to it. Whenever I go out, I do my best to strike up random conversations with people.
Does that make me sound iffy? :rotfl:

Just knowing that you've had a 2 line conversation with someone at the checkout at Tescos feels better than having talked to no-one.
Have you mentioned this to your GP? He/She may know of some support for you in your area or be able to suggest some support groups.
Also, Samaritans are excellent for helping suggest things to prevent feelings of isolation etc. They're not just there for the obvious.

Is there a particular hobby you have or a subject you feel passionate about? On-line forums connected with that, free short courses on-line or books and magazines from the library? If you like reading and are up to a challenge, on-line book reading clubs?

I do a bit of Mystery Shopping. Mainly phone calls. hat helps me - contact with someone, using brain, a little pocket money and a feeling of achievement. I can point you in the direction of a couple of companies if you like? I also do consumer product testing and surveys and you would be suprised what a good feeling it is to be congtributing to society in that way and I have one that pays £3 a survey which has earned me £15 in the last fortnight!

A less than coherent post from me (yes, thank you bz) as it's a bit of a stream of consciousness.

Sending you hugs and hope you feel a bit brighter.

Oh Pamaris - did no one mention - chocolate is one of the worst things you can have when you've got fibro :eek::eek:.

That goes for you as well Suep and frankly you should know better .

Serves you all right :p blummin' well tearing off into the distant blue yonder and leaving poor old me playing 'catch-up'. Mind you, I've had a good laugh reading through the posts - especially Suep and her lentils :rotfl:. I dunno, her husband nearly burns the house down making chips and she can't cook lentils . I'm glad I don't live next door to her :rotfl:.

Suep knows of course that I would move next to her tomorrow;) as we have been friends for years! We used to belong to a FMS support forum - but they didn't like us 'cos we told jokes and didn't moan enough .

Hey CWTA, if you can point me in the direction of your mystery shopping schemes and product testing I would be greatly obliged. I've always fancied that - is there anywhere that pays for on-line reviews? It would be one way of putting my journalism skills to good use.

    Love,
