Well, you can try. But my walking stick is loaded and I'm not afraid to use it! ;)

Aaaaaggghhhh I have been so engrossed in trying to catch up with the last 5 pages of posts that I burnt my saucepan of lentils twice  The first time it happened I poured the unburnt lentil mix in a smaller pan added some more stock and carried on cooking them for another 15 mins as they werent ready, came back out to the kitchen 15 mins laer and they'd burnt again  Im trying to make a lentil sherperds pie and was hoping to freeze down a few portions, now I only have enough for tonight :o

Anyway its now safely in the oven and Ive got the timer on :D
After all that excitement I cant remember what I wanted to say, except
good luck for tomorrow for Tattie, Im sure you will be fine, I will be sending you good vibes.

I will have to try and log on several times a day so I dont get so far behind from now on.

Sorry Unity but here's another lengthly post ;) I just can't resist the multiquotes cos I forget what I'm replying to or I end up doing a post for each reply...
BZ, I understand about wasted energy with calling HA's etc. When I typed that it was an "I opened my mouth nd my Mother spoke" moment. Sorry.
I think the masculine side of my brain is quite strong - I always have to try to find solutions for other people's problems rather than just support and listen to them.
Lol. Don't worry about it, I took it in the spirit in which it was meant :)
I'm the same, or I used to be more so - trying to solve others probs. I could always do someone else's thesis/essay/whatever rather than actually do my own
Well done for ringing the cleaner. You're doing better than me :D But then I've not even found a cleaner yet... :( Suppose there's no point now, til I get the new house.

I suppose I am just not sure whose "job" it is to support me, and what I should do to solicit their support. GP? Rheumatologist (who is MUCH harder to get ahold of than the GP)?
Fibromyalgia nurse (haven't seen yet; I presume I'll need to form a relationship with her first)? Do I write a letter and have them sign it? Do I ask them to write a letter? Or is there a specific form I need to give them? Or do I just make the application and wait for the medical exam?

I've probably already read somewhere what to do, but I don't remember!
Hi Pamaris. I've done my DLA form without any inclusive evidence or support from any medical bods. I got awarded lowest rate DLA and no mobility - the mobility thing is kind of my fault though cos I just went along with whatever the medical exam doc said for walking distance. I'll have to reapply in a while.

I did ask my GP about it, and I do go back and talk to my GP everytime I've seen another person (CBT, specialist, consultant, tests, whatever) and we go through it together -what happened, what they said, what the results were, whatever letter the other bod sent GP. I find this really useful to do and my GP doesn't mind at all - it keeps me involved in the process - after all it is about me! - and makes me feel a bit more involved, iyswim? (Raeh I'd recommend this to you too!) I probably see my GP on average every 6 weeks, and I'm never led to feel like I'm unnecessarily bothering them. :)

I think I've gone off on a tangent  What I means to say was that I asked my GP about giving me a supporting letter for such things (he did for my first medical exam for IB) and he said there was no point because they still send out a letter/form to the GP after they've received the claim form anyway, and they basically discount whatever letter you'd sent in with the form, not looking at it. I don't know how true that is in other areas but he gave me lots of examples from this area where that had happened.

I do agree with whoever said about going lots to the doc for pretty much everything and then it's all on record though. The more you build up a rapport, relationship & record with your GP the more accurate their supporting evidence will be.
I do have a guide of how many points they nominate for what kind of symptoms etc mentioned in the DLA form, that I codged off the CAB woman (:D), if you wanna know more I can dig it out?

  • Right, calmer now. Have had another water leak. This time from new plumbing to dishwasher. It has soaked the whole of the cupboard the machine is in and has gone through wall into bedroom.
Trying to sort this out and Dad phones being all stupid and probably p1ssed. He realised I wasn't impressed and I just know when I take him out tomorrow he'll insist on paying for lunch as his way of mkaing it up to me. God forbid he should show any honest emotion, just throw money at something and that makes it all OK.
    Sheeesh. Rant over.
Thanks for making me larf S/e.

My ex was like that. It's SO infuriating isn't it. Especially when they know you're skint and it pains you to turn (certain) things down.

Yes definitely but only if it is an easy job for ya.:)

On a particularly random note, I was thinking of going to all my doctor visits with no makeup on. This is because I look very ill and tired without makeup. I look very normal with it on. Maybe then I'll feel like I am taken seriously.
I am not sure I would want to face the day without it though.

Anyway, it sounds like the key here is forming good relationships. I suppose it will just take lots of time, lots of phone calls and lots of notes.

I am too tired now to be witty or insightful- so have a good evening all.

Anyone else worried about this new government thingy about everyone on benefits having to get a job except the severly disabled ? I think it's very scarey as we dont look disabled, let alone severely disabled. It's not that I dont want to work, but I know I couldnt manage a job, Ive been trying to think all day about a job I could do if they insist and I cant think of anything.

I'll get OH to dig it out, no hard jobs for me ;)

I would if I was you. I pretty much never wear makeup anymore. I make no effort to dress up or look presentable when I'm going to the docs or what have you. I think you have a point. (My dad always used to go into hospital wearing a suit on the basis that people would treat him differently while he was there!)

I agree that building good relationships take time, BUT that doesn't mean that you should wait forever to get cracking on your form. If you ask the Benefits Enquiry Line to send you the form then they make on your file the date you enquired about it and backdate the benefit to that date (I think it's providing you get the form back within the allocated time).
