Neighbour's daughter (16) didn't realise that what had caught fire was fat and put it in sink. Not a good idea! Sensibly, she did the best thing and came and got me. I grabbed my handy fire blanket (yes, I'm still obsessed by H&S) and did what I could until Fire Brigade arrived. Lots of lovely hunky men in uniform who dealt with it in about 10 seconds flat.
Cue oxygen for me and Jade - good stuff that! It makes you feel a little high. Although I was aware my chest was sore, Jade needed it far more than me as she has Asthma.
No lasting damage to either of us. I still have very sore eyes from the smoke, chest a little tight and some small sore spots on hands, but it really drives home how dangerous fire can be and smoke especially! Noxious stuff.
Poor Jade left very, very shaken and teary, so I was absolutely selfless and pointed the better looking men in the bunch in her direction.
Will spend sometime with them this weekend helping wash down kitchen etc and dealing with the aftermath.
Most exciting thing that's happened to me in years and, at last my extensive first aid and safety kit came into use.
If any of you don't have Smoke Alarms up ...........
On a slightly lighter note - I didn't think to call the fire brigade when the plumber set fire to my house so I didn't get any hunks to ogle. Trouble is, they're all so young these days. [Did I tell you about the time my car was 'crunched' by a fire engine? Couldn't bluddy believe it - Friday 13th. My car was parked right up against the kerb; fire engine was moving at a hair-raising 3 MPH and the booger still managed to hit me and nearly ripped my bumper off. Did I tell you that Sod picked me out at birth for a play-thing?]s/e0 -

Dunno about you, but a surge of adrenalin has quite a nasty effect on me. I hope that it's all just surface damage and that Jade doesn't suffer any after effects either.
Good point about the adrenalin. Unless I actively use it up, it can make me porly afterwards. Thanks.
Jade seems fine but I think she's a little embarrassed. Lots of hugs for her when her Mum got home from work and it appears it's only cosmetic damage to their kitchen/flat, so I'll leave them to it unless they need some help.
Yes, they were a young bunch. Is cradle snatching illegal?Mind you, they wouldn't look twice at me. Didn't help that I was in sweats and had bed hair, so was Medusa's double
Your poor ickle car! I bet the driver never lived it down though. Perhas they're safer drivers at 70mph than 3mph.
I once reversed my car into the corner of a wall in front of a van load of council workmen. Many, many years ago, but I still blush at the memory.
Have been a good girl and hidden lots of veg in my shepherds pie. So mice are off the menu tonight!

Well, I wonder why that is.

Oh no what a scarey thing to happen, it's a good job you were at home and had a fire blanket, I keep meaning to buy one, think I will actually do it now. We had a chip pan fire when my boys were babies, I was in bed and my DH came home from the pub a bit worse for wear and fancied some chips, he put the chip pan on and fell asleep, I woke up as I heard him choking, I thought he was being sick and went downstairs to have a moan, but from the stairs down I couldnt see a thing, I got my 8 month old son out and layed him in the front garden,( eldest son was staying at my mums that night ) found DH on the floor and dragged him outside, put fire out with wet tea towel then got dressed, got pram and went to my mums dragging DH behind me. We've had oven chips ever since.
By the way, it's my dad that Unity is talking about with pancreatic cancer, so thankyou for your good vibes/prayers etc.

Oooh! Sarcy madam!
At least I can go to bed tired knowing that I made a difference. I struggle with self-esteem regarding being a positive contributor to society
suep, sorry to hear that it's your Dad that's one of the poorly ones. It's hard when it's your parent and can be even more difficult if the roles of caring are reversed. I went through something similar with Mum, so I can empathise with you to some extent. Don't forget to look after yourself.
I worked in H&S before all myhealth stuff and background was from a firm of Tree Surgeons that I managed so, although not obsessive, it does play a part in my life and I have full H&S/First Aid kits in both car and at home. I didn't have a home fire extinguisher, merely because if you use the wrong one, you can cause more problems and I can't store all the 3 that are recommended.
I even have a small hammer in the car to break the glass in case I ever end up in water.. Maybe that one is a little excessive
Your experience with the chip pan fire must have been terrifying with kids in the house.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -

And I echo what Auntie Axe says, make sure you look after yourself while you're looking after every-one else.s/e0 -

I seemed to be practically the only person in the building who took H&S seriously.s/e0 -
glad your both ok careful, frightening how easy it is for things to happen.
sue sorry about your dad (that sounds so trite or something) and the others unity (was it?) mentioned.0 -

Actually, the best a Psych could come up with for me was that I was anxious. Given what was going on at the time, it was hardly bluddy surprising.
Unity, I think the word you meant to type there was with.
Don't do prayers, but they'll be in my thoughts.
Hi S/E - You were right of course - I did mean 'with' - good job you can keep me right.
I don't do prayers either TBH, so I'm working on 'creative visualisation' instead. Perhaps it amounts to the same thing.
