I've lost a bit of interest waiting for the cheque to clear...
Same is true if making the initial deposit by direct debit.
Don't leave (substantial) funds in your current account waiting to be claimed. Leave them making interest elsewhere until the account is opened, and then transfer them in.0 -
To be fair to Tesco I had no trouble opening my Internet Saver, but OH on the other hand had a bit of a nightmare. Both opened and working fine now though.
Was just wondering if those that didn't already have a ClubCard before opening the account are receiving them unprompted or are having to call up to get one? My OH received hers the other day (unprompted ... points already added when checked online), despite not actually getting her account opened for a couple of weeks after mine, but I'm still waiting.Best MSE comp win so far: iPod Classic (June 2009) - Thanks to all who post!0 -
OH has opened one of these accounts. No mention of any bonus points for clubcard from TESCO. Do you need to request points to be added ?
Another question. OH has transfered in £25 using the transfer option. Am I right in saying that if OH wants to take money out onlie then the card reader is required ?

I posted here a few days ago about not having had points added. When I had a look today, I spotted that the points have now been added. I'd not been in touch with Tesco in the interim.0

Hope no one minds me 'borrowing' this thread, but a quick question...
I've applied for one of these accounts and received the paperwork yesterday, which includes a DD mandate to complete and return. Is this a requirement? -- or can I choose not to send it back?
I thought payments in/out can be made directly by FP, so a DD arrangement wouldn't be necessary, but it is included on their checklist of things to return as though it's required. With so much talk of how long the account takes to be fully up and running, I don't want to delay it any more by not sending something back they're expecting!
Many thanks.~cottager0 -
cottager, I certainly didn't set-up a DD when I opened my account, although am thinking I might have ticked a box on a form to say I wasn't going to set-up a regular payment but rather pay-in what I wanted when I wanted ... is that the same form you're talking about? To open my account initially I sent in a cheque for £10, then funded it directly from my other saving accounts once it was up-and-running.Best MSE comp win so far: iPod Classic (June 2009) - Thanks to all who post!0

No (I ticked that box too in the application), it's a standard DD mandate with a TPF logo at the top; but having looked again at the covering letter which lists enclosed docs I see now it says about it:
Sign if you wish to make future ad hoc payments into your new account.
I guess the 'if' means it's not requirement. I do want to make ad hoc payments (in and out) but by normal bank BACS/FP online when required, which I think is what most people do with this account... so slightly puzzled why they sent this form at all.
Also puzzling is what they say I need to do with the main application form to sign and send back:
Complete any additional information that we may require (including your sortcode and account number if possible), check, sign and return.
Huh? What sortcode and account number?
Probably just me being thick!~cottager0 -

Same here. I gave up waiting; I caved in a few days ago and rang them, and got some excuse about how "there's been a delay with the supply of card readers" (no sh*t sherlock) and the card should be with you "in a couple of days" (it hasn't arrived still). Anyway, I asked for the entire balance except £1 to be transfered back to my current account, and to give them their due, it did arrive later the same day. (Although annoyed I had to ring!)They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -

I recently applied for the Tesco internet account and have received the application form to sign and make the initial payment but I'm also baffled how to pay money in after the account is opened.
I want to make ad hoc payments from my current account but I'm reluctant to sign the DD mandate which appears to be suitable for regular payments only. However this is the only form available to advise a pay-in (and out) account and sort code; (a cheque is only an option when opening the account.) Do you have to set up the various accounts between which transfers/payments are made after the account is open?
I do not currently operate my current account on line but suspect I may have to do so in future; is this so? Other internet savings accounts I have all accept cheques but not the Tesco account.
A thick question but... can I make a BACS transfer from a branch or only over the internet? If so how do you do it.... I went in to the local branch and the cashier said I could only make a CHAPS transfer at some enormous cost but I can't believe this is so.0
