I applied for my Tesco savings account early in November. The money sat in my current account for 3 weeks earning 0.12% interest before they cashed the cheque, which was bad enough. However, it was Christmas before I was able to log into my account and see the balance. This is because after applying online, they wrote to me saying I had to send two proofs of ID in the post. They returned these, then told me I now had to send them a signature in the post. I did this, but then got another letter asking for my signature again. They were then supposed to send me a sort code and account number but this never arrived, despite them telling me they had sent it three times. In the end, after a lot of aggro on the phone and sending an angry letter in the post, I finally got through to a manager who was prepared to give me my top secret information. Hooray I thought, I can finally log in. Oh no you can't! After getting the account number, I discovered this only permitted me to apply for a customer number. This was sent to me in the post, and that finally allowed me to register for the online account access (I also had to come up with two silly passwords). Finally, 2 months after applying for the account, I could log in to my account.

I tried to withdraw some money shortly after. Oh no you can't! To withdraw money, you need a card reader, which - you guessed it - you need to apply for and be sent in the post. I applied for mine 2 weeks ago and there is still no sign of it arriving, so my money is trapped in the account. After reading about the imminent drop in interest rates I finally lost patience today and after waiting 30 minutes on the phone I got through to someone who says the money will be in my current account again in 3 days. I will believe it when I see it.

I have never had to jump through as many hoops as I have to open this account. The hassle I endured was in no way made up for by clubcard points (which incidentally I can't check online as that website doesn't work either). In future I will be avoiding Tesco like the plague!

    Cheers
    Jon

    Hi,
Im thinking of opening the internet account. The rate (even from January) looks good. Howver can anyone tell me what this torturous account opening business is all about. How many hoops will I have to jump through to open an account?

great. had to call them again as still no pin (last time card a pin arrived and no card, so they told me theyd cancel the card and send a new pin and card)basically yet again have been told to wait or call back tomorrow (in working hours which is very difficult to do) i started the application process with this account on 14th october and i am still experiencing problems.

i requested the pin/card/reader etc on 7th november and still have not got all the components needed, i called to see if they can send a duplicate pin out for the card as the pin they claim to have sent has still not been received and guess what, they cant do that without cancelling the card!!!! so i have been told to ring them tomorrow and someone may be able to help me, but the only choice i seem to have is to either wait and see if this new pin is ever sent out, or request yet again a new card/pin etc (and whats the betting if i did that yet again i will not receive one all the other)

funny they couldnt answer why the paper/online initial application process form asks for your account details for payments, yet they take no notice of this and they have to be set up online still which requires this damned pin and card

i am going to see if i can call them from work tomorrow and if i dont get a satisfactory answer, i am going to ask them to register an official complaint

just realised, still no pin number or card again lol, i posted this on the 4th december so now its the 6th jan and i first requested the pin and card on 7th november and still not received, when i called them on the 5th december they advised they would request another one!!

I've found every single experience with this so-called 'bank' appallingly bad. Everything about it screams amateurs, and I've already withdrawn all the money, as has my wife.

I'm going back to a proper bank that behaves efficiently and professionally, rather than this lot who haven't a clue.

Mine aren't appearing on my receipts or online yet. I rang about it and they were more surprised that some are able to view the bonus points on their receipts, as the bonus points were not due to be added until February.

That's the response I got - but when I asked what would happen if/when my Feb statement comes without them they wouldn't assure me that they would correct it immediately.
  • What is the best number to get Tesco's on - have had no points and now wish to close the account.

I assume that if I close the account, I will still get the points.

My points have now appeared but my son's haven't. We opened our accounts on the same day in early November.

If it's the Clubcard dept you want, the number is 0800 591 688, if it's the Internet Saver number you want, it's 08457 10 40 10.

I echo all the comments regarding the inefficient, frustrating 'service' from Tesco Finance - having eventually got my account opened and funds credited, I see that I have only 1000 credited (from internet clubcard record and till receipt) instead of the 1500 I expected as I had £5000 credited by 31 December. Of course, as expected, I can't get through because they 'are experiencing a high volume of calls' - as the rate has dropped, no doubt it's from frustrated account holders who thought all this was a good idea! I won't be repeating this exercise!!!!!
  • I've applied for an account and, yes fair enough, it has taken a while to get opened. I've lost a bit of interest waiting for the cheque to clear, but with the clubcard deal and the 5.1% interest I can understand why the applications are flying through their doors. My sister applied just before the cut-off date for the bonus rate and she called up today to check how long it normally takes and got through immediately. Apparently they've received a record number of applications (which you can see as well on the internet note thing they've put on the main page). You think there's any jobs going there to help them out? lol.
