The usual trick. Offer a good rate, get all the money in, then drop the rate and inertia will take care of the rest.

    Every little hurts.
    Or, more accurately...

The unusual trick. Offer a good rate, then increase it by 0.25%...even without a BOE rate rise, get all the money in, then drop the rate by 0.6% LESS than the BOE rate cut before last, and very late at that, and with plenty of notice and inertia will take care of the rest at some point later when the account stops being a good 'un.

    Every little [strike]hurts[/strike] helps.

Does Martin Lewis know something we don't about the Tesco rates. 6% at the moment only going down to 5.1% in January surely wipes the floor with Anglo Irish, ICIC and the AA. I thought he was all about highlighting the best rates?

Agree with Tibbledom, although the opening process was the most ridiculous ever, the rate is still well above any other instant access I have, and is dropping slower than others too.

Once the bonus 12 months are up, then it'll be a different story, plus don't forget the free clubcard points too - all good as long as you don't fritter them away in store, use "deals" for 4 times the value.

Hubby and I both opened accounts. Mine is up and running but hubby has had a ridiculous farce - they "couldn't verify" his signature after the first letter (does this mean they lost it) so he had to send another one, then when he tried to log in again he "failed security" and has to start all over again. Good job we don't need that £5k back in a hurry :rotfl:

This happened to myself and my partner as well  This account is a complete nightmare to set up but, when it IS up and running, it's very flexible and easy to operate icon7.gif

    Hi,
Im thinking of opening the internet account. The rate (even from January) looks good. Howver can anyone tell me what this torturous account opening business is all about. How many hoops will I have to jump through to open an account?

wahooo...just tried logging in and hey presto it now works so they obviously got my signature and verified it 1st time!!!! (better than i was expecting given others experiences!!)

also i have got £5k in there now.......wasn't sure as i've been doing lots of small amounts due to halifax's secret faster payment rules!!! took me 13 transactions to reach the £5k LOL!!!

hopefully i'll get the clubcard points now when they check the balance on 31/12/08

my date of account opening is given as 25/11/08 but i definitely applied online 12/11/08 but i don't have any proof of this........

Why don't you read the thread in full? It's covered in detail on the previous pages...
  • Receieved my letter yesterday and logged on without any problems. Fingers crossed that Tesco don't copy everyone else and drop their rates even more.
