how do i know what my customer number is?
It's your date of birth (ddmmyy) plus an extra number - if you need this to register for online banking, click the option saying you don't have a customer number.

It will then ask for your account number and sort code, before displaying your customer number for you to note down.
  • What does the extension mean for those who got the cash into the account before 30 Nov? If we move the money now (a bit limited without the card reader admittedly) do we not get the points, or are they essentially running two points promotions based on the last day of both months?

Nothing. You've met the T&C's so you'll get the points.

However, since Tesco are still paying 6% can you better that elsewhere?

    This offer has now finished.

If you are a tax payer and your wife not, only open it in your wife's name so she can receive gross interest. If it's joint, you'll not be eligible for gross interest as you pay tax.

This is incorrect. If you have a joint account and one of you is not a tax payer, you will only be eligable for 50% of the tax. Half of the interest will be paid gross and half will be taxed. At least that is the situation with Halifax, other banks may differ.

Still better to have it all tax free by placing it all in the non tax payers name.

You can move the money out without waiting for the reader. I moved mine out on 3rd December - didn't know I needed a card reader, and they said they could do an instant online transfer to my bank - they did, there and then, and the cash was in my bank two minutes later!! There doesn't appear to be a charge for this, although they may only do it once when you don't have a reader - not sure.

As you say, I hope the new goalposts regarding the dates for this account have not changed for those who put in before the old deadline, 'cos I've moved mine out now (to a better fixed rate over 50's account!!) - but I only feel 25!
  • this extension thing is a bit of a pain.

Having put my money in and out again to hit the Nov deadline, I take it I am now going to have to repeat for the end of DEC?

No - if your money was there for 30 November you're fine. They just allowed a bit longer for people to qualify because they messed up so badly with delays.
  • I applied on 12th November and the points offer was shown on their website - however Martin's article states
Sign up to a Tesco Savings Account account before 12 November 08 and if you're a new customer you'll be awarded at least five hundred points on its Clubcard rewards scheme...

So am I eligible for the points offer?
