Does anyone have any clue as to how we'll be paid?

I still think it'd be brilliant if the government transferred all of the funds and created their own nationalised version, or put everything into Northern Rock etc.

As far as I could see, that'd really be a win/win situation - the people with money tied up would be happy as it's a mostly hassle free outcome, and most of them would be more than happy to leave the money with this institution so the government won't have to pay out anywhere near as much as by other means.

Hope that makes sense.
• Can't see money being allowed to xfr to Northern Rock

The rush of consumers looking for safer places for their savings meant Northern Rock was in danger of exceeding a commitment to take only a 1.5 per cent share of total UK retail deposits, which it made so that it could not take advantage of its temporary government support.
The nationalised lender said the recent turmoil in financial markets, including the nationalisation of rival Bradford & Bingley and the government-brokered takeover of HBOS, had led to a “sizeable” inflow of deposits, particularly in recent days.

Products withdrawn to new customers from today include Silver Savings, Silver Savings 30, Business Reserve and a range of fixed-rate bonds. The move follows the recent withdrawal of Northern’s fixed-rate access bond and its online e-saver product. Northern has also amended its product pricing to uphold its competitive commitments.

If our government are lending them 3 billion and have frozen 4 billion, They should give them a week to pay it back or confiscate the 4 billion and share it out with us.

We could try emailing our MPs. A bit tame I know but if enough of us do it the issue might flow to the top of the in tray.

I wrote to my MP last Thursday and still waiting for a reply

We have written to our MP & Alistair Darling, and to date neither have bothered to reply.

http://www.writetothem.com/ & darlinga@parliament.uk

Now received a reply from our MP for what it’s worth, he sent a letter & apart from saying nothing just enclosed a copy of the initial press release from the Treasury!
Nothing from Darling.

I wrote to my MP plus David Cameron

Both replied within 48 hours, my MP was taking up the way the FSCS has handeld the process with the minister. Not expecting much but if everybody wrote it might just give them imputus to get it sorted and to give out more information.

I was seriously disappointed with the response from David Cameron's office. They didn't seem to get the point and just gave me a party spiel about councils loosing money with Icesave. I guess I should have waved my old school tie and sung the Eton boat song :D

I have an IceSave 1 year Fixed Rate/Term a/c. Mature date 22nd June 2009.

Due to the present circumstances however, am I to expect (hopefully) that I will get my money out at the same time as all savings are released?

Also, what is the position re. Interest as I opted for interest to be added annually?

I'm in exactly the same boat as you and from what I've read so far we won't get this money back until next June when it was originally due to mature. Although the good news is that as we opted for annual interest that we should also receive the full amount of interest due :D

I certainly agree, if nothing happens by 6/7 nov., we should make our feelings known. So count us two in as part of the 500.
Hey Guys, how about November 5th? We could give the powers that be both a verbal and physical rocket.

• Oct. 22 (Bloomberg) -- The U.K. Treasury is planning to lend Iceland about 3 billion pounds ($5 billion) so British depositors who put money into Icesave, the internet arm of Landsbanki Islands hf, can be repaid after their accounts were frozen, the Financial Times reported, without saying where it got the information. Officials from the department and the Bank of England plan to go to Iceland to complete the plan, the newspaper said, citing an unidentified spokesman for the Treasury. Bjorgvin Sigurdsson, Iceland's minister for commerce, said the deal may be reached by today, the newspaper said.
The agreement, aimed at covering the savings of private individuals, will not protect corporate or government holders in Icesave, according to the FT.
