    Usually, I can support Martin's reasoning (and my blood started boiling when some people came on the forum blaming him for the Icesave debacle).

    However, Martin, your apparent support to some 'action' a month after Landesbanki was declared in default perplexes me somewhat.

    Can't really say it much better than Blah99 has already said it, and I will very much distance myself from any publicity/protests on November 7 or 8 or whatever the suggested date is. Would be a differnet scenario if it was December 20 now, but it isn't yet. Can we all just stay calm, and give the FSCS folks a bit more time to sort out what is a first for them.

    I'm sorry but am I missing something here? According to the FSCS website, Landsbanki was formally declared in default on Wednesday 8th October.

    By law the FSCS have 3 (or 6, depending on how you read it) months to get this resolved. That means we should see action by 8th January, if we (unreasonably) assume the Christmas period is included as "work time".

    It's now 21st October, and people are talking about action at the start of November. Does someone need to borrow my desk calendar, or have I fundamentally missed something?

    As I posted in another thread, I would rather the FSCS get on with the job of sorting the compensation out than make regular announcements that don't give us any real new information. Anyone with any experience of working on large "projects", especially where large sums of money are concerned, knows that things take time.

    Martin, why are you fuelling these premature protestations? Surely you should be the voice of reason.
  • Well, we can always send Gordon a video request;

    Seems like you can't send a normal e-mail anymore.

    At the end of the day the government have made a promise, 'My word is my bond' .....help just think about the vote on the EU referendum not wishing to put the Willies up anyone. I do though believe we will get our money back but like most government dealings these days it takes time. The issue here for me is 'Lost Interest' which many will feel is unfair because I don't think IMHO that it will be paid unless others have seen anything to the contrary.

    Martin is doing a splendid job and his strategy of waiting and announcing and not going into overkill is spot on, otherwise it will be wasted. After all the FSA blurb specifically mentions a period of 3 months for payouts.

    Can you imagine the fall in confidence and shock should this not transpire? If it didn't there would be no point whatsoever in trusting the FSA or the government again.

    Agree in general with the first part of your statement, but not so sure now about the second part - from what he has posted in this thread, it seems there's now a good chance he might go into overkill (which would be a great shame IMO).

  • I have an IceSave 1 year Fixed Rate/Term a/c. Mature date 22nd June 2009.

    Due to the present circumstances however, am I to expect (hopefully) that I will get my money out at the same time as all savings are released? :confused:

    Also, what is the position re. Interest as I opted for interest to be added annually?

    I am not sure why you think the vast majority have less than 20k euro ?

    Its a guess, I may be wrong, but I doubt that the majority have more than this.
