Where do you find out how much calls cost while on the BT basic line rental? Where do you find out all the info about the BT basic line rental? What happens if your calls cost more than £4.50 a quarter?

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

The form was slow in arriving, Wednesday 27th September, however I posted it back on Thursday 29th September. I wonder will they accept of refuse the application, apparently they will write to me and let me know either way.

I have just received BT's letter which states we cannot have BT basic because my husband, although named on our benefits, is not the main name on our Income Support. I telephoned BT and the person said that we would have to pay cancellation fees for my hubby's account. We would have to wait 14 days for my hubby's account to be stopped and a final bill sent out. She also said that the line would then be started in my name on the same day but we would have a different telephone number. When I asked if there was any way that the name could just be changed on the account or added to the account as Mr & Mrs, she said not unless one of us dies.

Is there any way we can keep our telephone number, change the account to my name and therefore get BT basic? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

BT cancelled my hubby's account and then set up an account in my name so we could get BT basic. Apparently the BT staff member ticked a box so we could keep our existing telephone number and they said they would send us a BT basic form which we would have to fill in and return within 10 days of the telephone conversation. My account went active on the 1st November but I never received the form despite phoning them. They have taken the first three months payment from our account and so far no problems! :j

Thanks to this site I found out about BT basic otherwise I would not have known it existed! :money: :j

One of the notes about BT Basic reads:If there's an option to bar 09 numbers, it's logical to assume that it must be possible to make them, unless you opt to bar them.

I think you'll find the 2½% VAT rise increased the £1.50 per call cost of calling ff21 numbers and it's now £1.531 per call.

I've found out that premium calls are not included in the allowance , i've been billed £5.05 for the premium calls. I have just downloaded the bt basic pdf guide and it just stated that 01,02,03 and international calls are included in the allowance. I don't remember seeing that in the previous guide but could be wrong.

    How much BT Basic cost?
I just receive last bill for 165 pounds!
I order BT Basic 4 days ago, so why BT charge me 3 months in advance for current phone and broadband and charge me 46 pounds for broadband equipment if I can send this back?

They say Infinity is not compatible with BT Basic, why they charge me for disconnecting if it is not my fault that infinity is not compatible...
I'm no planing going for JSA... Just happen. And now I must first pay 165 for next 3 months to get BT Basic... I really don't understand. On BT website they say BT Basic is for people with low income, to help them... I do not see any help to pay 165 pounds...
  • My Mother, who receives a guaranteed pension credit was refused this today, despite actually receiving an eligible benefit and returning the completed form within one day.

Bt say :- They have been unable to confirm with the DWP thats she receives one of the eligible benefits

Application was not completed and returned within the specified time !

Thing is like most pensioners she is struggling and needs to make cutbacks and this would have helped seeing as an average bill is £20 per month, only one to three calls are made a week.

So what are the choices apart from canceling the line ?
