could i use providers like dialaround 0844s on bt basic?
http://www.btplc.com/inclusion/Needhelp/BTBasic/faqs.htm#whatnumbersTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Does anyone know if this BtBasic plan can be backdated. Been out of work a while now, but have only just noticed this Bt Basic about 30 minutes ago. So will be going for it tomorrow.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0
-
I think you will find that they do not backdate! As someone that had a line installed and completed the form as requested which was subsequently not received by BT I wish you luck! When I requested a second form they said if approved it would not be until May when I would be transferred to BT Basic! So I have had to pay full line rental for three months in advance! As it is I have now secured employment so no longer qualify.0

Finally got BT Basic arranged for my mother (after almost a year in trying).
Although I had to go to the top - I made a complaint directly to the CEO's
office about how I was being treated and it was all sorted out in 5 minutes!0 -
It appears so, yes - and you'll be charged standard rates for those calls (they do not come out of your call allowance).

Someone said this earlier on this thread...
You cant use a service provided by another supplier.
http://www.btplc.com/inclusion/Needh...ic/BTBasic.pdf
which is true?
for example, to avoid bt's high mobile costs and i used DiscountDial at 7p/min 0871 772 7171 would this be blocked, and what would i be charged? (g13 rate?)
and perhaps to avoid international high costs, i used DialAround @ 0.5p/min 0844 200 5050 (g22 rate?)
with regards to g13 and g22 these are:

can anyone answer my query?0 -
Didn't I answer that in post #402? The link I included there, takes you to http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=25502&s_cid=con_FURL_personal/pricing which, in turn, contains a link to http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumer/consumerProducts/pdf/SpecialisedNos.pdf and http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumer/consumerProducts/pdf/UKInternationalprices.pdf
To clarify.
You cannot have a CPS calls provider.
You cannot use an indirect access provider (1899, 18185 etc.).
However, AFAICS, there's nothing to stop you using gateway providers (such as the many 0844 and 0871 numbers the MSE CallCheckers detail) but the calls will not come out of the meagre allowance BT Basic gives you.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. £0.122 for a 1471 call with BT basic :-(0
-
...spoke too soon. A letter from BT today with (the actual bad news figures on the rear as usual ...) advice that the
Call return features
the 1471 #3 or 1571 #0 services, go from 12.2p UP to 16.5p = 35.2 % RISE and
Daytime calls to UK landlines & 0870 numbers
Up from 5.9p to 6.4 /min (8.47 %) for 'normal' users but "This not does not affect BT Basic to 01, 02 or 03 numbers, however, calls to 0870 outside your inclusive weekend calls, will be affected by this price increase."
Outside your Inclusive weekend calls? What does that mean? Thought the £4.50 was a just a flat credit, any time and not mentioning weekends?
Both increases from 1st Oct 2010.
Anyway, with the inflation busting rises, just where is the toothless and anonymous OFCOM?0 -
