I've just spent 20 minutes searching BT's convoluted websites - and not found it.

I easily found text on 'how to complete the application form' - but no form!

my fault, there is no form online. also if you are not a bt customer you have to transfer over to bt then apply!

Great news
- with BT Basic, you will also get free weekend calls to O845 and O870 numbers which last up to 60 minutes. This does not include indirect access numbers (for services that can give you numbers for other companies and charge you for putting you in touch with them) and dial-up internet access. You can not go over 1000 minutes or 150 calls in a month. If you do go over, we will charge you for these calls

Try harder  the number is 0800 800 864

I don't think you understood - I've called this number FOUR TIMES - got through and spoke to someone FOUR TIMES - that person promised that an application form would be sent out immediately FOUR TIMES and yet no application form has ever been received! And they still turned down my application because the form wasn't returned in time!!!!!
So what application form were they looking at?
Where did it come from?
Who did the personal details belong to?
They certainly were not mine, as I've pointed out, I never received a form to submit!

I wrote to the Customer Services Manager who refused the application, asking these questions, in August. Guess what? I'm still waiting for a reply!

I am really surprised that someone who had (eventually) received the form hasn't scanned it and made it available for download by anyone else.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Hi Heinz, all applicants for BT Basic need to meet the correct criteria for the plan and after this is met they would receive an application form with a specific ID with reference to their account. Unfortunately without a valid form the order for this service would not be accepted.

I am the official company representative of BT. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. Hi M00nie

Yes certain questions to check for eligibility will be asked before a form is sent.

People needn't get too worried about this. Just phone and ask for the form. Unless BT have a very special deal with the DWP/govenrnment/Data Commissioner/Information Commisioner etc they will only have the most very baisc of info and the people actually taking these calls will have no private info I'd imagine.

There will probably be a NI (National Insurance) database on a very limted number of computers at BT Towers which is why BT needs the phone buffer or 100,000s of people would be downloading the form and sending it off in the chance they might get something.

I think the UK government were going to amend the law to allow for this but they worked out a simple workaround. Don't know what that is but it will only be workable on low access info.

Not read all the posts as there are so many.

I think though that it is fundamentally wrong for there to be social tariffs for any utility.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
