Does anyone know if this BtBasic plan can be backdated. Been out of work a while now, but have only just noticed this Bt Basic about 30 minutes ago. So will be going for it tomorrow.

Of course it can not be backdated. It will not even be backdated to from tomorrow - from reports here it will take you many months and several ignored applications before you will be be switched to the tariff.

Does anyone know if you can go straight onto the BT Basic tariff after having a line activated when moving into a new flat, or do you have to be on a standard contract for a set period before they move you over?

One of my neighbours has just moved in, is on IB JSA and has asked me to find out, but I'm going around in circles!

I think you will find that the information on the form has to be verified by DWP first. So they will be paying normal line rental until then.

Thanks, so there's nothing actually stopping them getting a line installed/activated (apparently the plug socket is there, so there was a line at some point) and applying for the BT basic straight away? I'm sure he'd be ok to pay a bit of standard line rental whilst they sort it out.

I wasn't sure if BT stuck you on a contract for another package when they turn you on for the first time.

I moved my mum on to BT Basic 4 months ago and she still has caller display active on her phone. And looking at the phone bill i cannot see any charge for it.

    Hi,

Does anyone know if I can dial 0911 03344XX using my inclusive call allowance of #4.50 that we have on BT Basic or does it exclude these types of numbers? I can't seem to find any info on this. I have had a look at the call tariff and this number will be billed at 150ppm so I could dial it 3 times with my allowance.

One of the notes about BT Basic reads:
Bar or restrict certain calls. BT Basic has a free Call Barring option so you can stop certain calls being made from your phone. You can bar various types of calls for example, to international, mobile or Premium Rate numbers (such as chatlines or TV shows).
If there's an option to bar 09 numbers, it's logical to assume that it must be possible to make them, unless you opt to bar them.

I think you'll find the 2½% VAT rise increased the £1.50 per call cost of calling ff21 numbers and it's now £1.531 per call.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
