....... stupid, for investing in the best rates going - as if i should have known there would be problems.
There is nothing wrong in chasing good rates. The bank was in UK, and had full 35 k protection. KE was not investing in risky mortgages, but was lending to businesses, many in UK. I just think that it turned sour because its business model went wrong, mostly due to recessionary pressures.IF KE had been offered a lifeline, like the other banks around the world have been, it would still be in business. Alas, Iceland did not have the resources.....Illegitimi non carborundum
...don't let the illegitimate ones grind you down....0 -
I've had the £20 CHAPs refund into my KE account today, and no money into my linked account.
Can anyone who has had their money refunded to their linked account confirm if they have received the CHAPs refund into the KE account?
Really feeling for you theFury.CHAPS out 8 Oct KE - received 20 Oct A+L
Still here for moral support.0 -
may be the transfer has not gone through because the balance on my KE account was showing negative figure (because of the CHAPS fee), anybody got the same problem?CHAPS 7/10 RECEIVED 20/10 NAT WEST0

Ah, ha, opened my Lloyds account just now having returned home and my awol money has been repatriated! Pulled my money on 9.10 spoke to lady on Sunday 12th (very nicely and calmly) and said where is my money and why have you charged me £20 when the chaps didnt happen. She told me (categorically) that she had arranged for the £20 to be refunded. Is it there this evening? Is it heck! The total is £20 down. Now, in prinicple I am just so happy to see my capital back. But, hey just think how rich these banks could get on the interest of 'X' thousand of customers being charged £20 extra each for nothing! Still - one down - IceSave to go.
Spoke to ING on Saturday 18th - they told me my money had been transferred but I just couldnt see it!!!! Spoke to lloyds they said if it has been transferred it will show after the refresh at 12.30 (sunday lunchtime). It wasnt there this morning. I think the most frustrating thing in all these situations is that what information is given out (from the banks etc) feels like a sop - just to keep me quiet. I just want up to date ACCURATE information that I can act on.
Been meaning to join this forum for ages and say - Martin I watched that news 'interview' and it was one of the worst media attacks I have ever seen! I have never heard you tell people what to do with their money all I have ever heard you do is highlight the options and let folk decide from there. Isn't it interesting that following the Ice banks debacle everyone is a financial expert all of a sudden and could see it all coming!0 -
My CHAPS 07/10 of £ 13783,66 has finally arrived into my linked FD account,
thank God.
CHAPS fee not refunded but probably ING will refund it soon.
Seriously I don't care now, and regardless of whether the fee will be refunded or not they will not see my money again, NO BANK will.
Big lesson here to be learnt.
I seriously thought this could have turned into my worst nightmare ever but luckily the nightmare is over now for me, at least on regards to Kauphting Edge.
Now the struggle will continue for getting back the £ 13,750 from Icesave,
but at least I can count on half of my savings again and now I can wait for whatever it will take to get the money back from Icesave.
ING have definitively not been very good at handling all this,
but I can understand they have been overwhelmed with the mess they inherited. Still, they have been not not very good at reassuring people and thet don't deserve my business.
However, i was almost desperate this morning and almost completely panicking, but I am now SURE that everybody will get their money back very very soon.
The people on this thread have really been fantastic in supporting each other,
and this as well is another big lesson for me, no more being "mean" with others,
we really need to help each other as much as we can, ALWAYS.
I for one I was only counting on this thread, its posters their despair but also their humour, to keep me updated/disparate/but also smiling...
Thank you all

I am still waiting did BACS transfer on 11th Oct wouldn't have been processed till the Monday.
Received email from ING last night 2040 saying
:While we have now processed over 95% of these payments, I am sorry to inform you that we are still working on a number of manual payment instructions, including the withdrawal request that you have made.
Just checked online again and not received still
Exactly the same as me -still awaiting £34K requested 11th by BACS.
There are still some of us whom are having to pay bills and ING are preventing it.
ING management really have probably brought about serious disrepute about their brand with their Basil Fawlty statements.
Even if they offered 10% interest I would say p^ss off and go whistle.

UPDATE: MONDAY 20TH OCTOBER, 16.30PM
Kaupthing Edge outstanding payment issue resolved
We have been working hard to clear the back log of payments and the vast majority of these have now been made. However, there are a small number of payments which we have been unable to process so far due to administrative issues within Kaupthing Edge.
Kaupthing Edge in the UK is being run by Administrators and we have now received their confirmation that all outstanding payments will be released by Thursday 23 October and we would expect these to start arriving in the destination bank account on Friday 24 October.
ING Direct and the Administrators would like to apologise once again for the delay in resolving this issue.
Your money is safe and secure and our priority remains to restore normal service to all customers.
Sounds like I might have been right then, account was locked and legal bun fight ensued! No wonder they didn't want to mention it until they had straightened it out!
Still no sign of mine (CHAPS-£33.5k-10:50am-07/10 -> Natwest) Boo hoo. Off out for a pint ... birthday tomorrow, hoping I get a BIG birthday cheque! :rotfl:0
