Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for Sunday 19th October. It is an 'over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.
Morning.
Day off today. I have a few nagging jobs to do which I am not looking forward to. I need to fix the lights on the OH car. I don't like electric faults as they can be hard to diagnose. Hopefullt a bulb or fuse should do it. I have to sort out flights for a lady at church. Trouble is to book she needs to be around so that her credit card can be verified when need be.
Later I am going to try and make some lead fishing weights. I have a bunch of old lead and moulds, it's just a matter of heat. So I could set fire to the shed or burn myself if not carefull, but I will save a lot of money in the long run, providing I don't burn the shed down that is?
Need to eat up loads of leftovers before we strat on the fresh stuff. I need to think about a diet too, or cutting back and exercise, but I can't get beyond the thinking bit.
Don't forget the great wine deals in ASDA, some as low as £2 a bottle. The californian cabernet (Rivercrest) I got for £2.24 was really good. Once it's gone I think it will be gone!
Cheers

Morning everyone
Over the weekend I have made a start with my OS MS..... bought some grobags and some seedlings and planted up 8 each of tomatoes, lettuce and peppers. These are items I buy every week so hopefully, after a few weeks, will save us a few $$$s. I'll have to find the receipt so I can make a note of total cost, then savings as we start harvesting.
We have also transferred $3K (£1,250) onto a 0% for six months credit card saving us quite a bit of interest in the meantime.
Interest rate on our mortgages has been dropped again (0.25%) but we are keeping our repayments the same so are overpaying even more.... almost paid back $10K (just over £4K) off the first one in two years so not doing too badly.... only another $224K (£94K) to go
And so it begins....0 -
Morning all
Please try not to burn anything N9eav.
Big hugs to GB, sorry you are having a carp time at the moment.
Off to work soon, not sure how long it will be till the fan gets hit with the Occ Health assessment, I'd probably best take a tin hat with me ready to put on though I'm half expecting it all to be brushed under the carpet & ignored, just like when we had a H & S assessor round, he spoke to our Facilities manager who could quote all the legal requirement, didn't mean any of them were adhered to though, but that didn't seem to matter, lol.
HM soup for lunch
Cottage pie for tea
Dorset apple cake to take to work to keep everyones spirits up.
Have a good day everyone
Hugs Hester

Morning all.
Dark and cold here today, cant see what the weather will do yet. Day off today, so i will have a good tidy through the whole house, will shove the last few bits of washing on, and hopefully get them line dried. Got to do an online shop for us to take on holiday with us on saturday, with dd's friend who will only eat chicken  . I have worked out a meal plan where we eat at home for 5 nights and then eat out twice, which should keep the pennies down.
No heating on yet, but think I will put it on when we get back from holiday, the barn we are staynig in has central heating and a log burner :T so we will be nice and toasty there.
Need to do some baking to take with us, and walk the dog, I also need to nip into town, and get myself a few jumpers, all of mine seem a bit ropey and old. That should keep me busy.
Hugs to candy thinking of you xx
Hugs where needed x

Hello everyone,
Gorgeous sunny day over here today.I love, love, love Spring weather. Had to go to the dr's this morning for the usual check up we have every few years. She's Irish and been visiting over there for the 7 weeks. I asked her how her re-union & holiday went and mentioned we had been over in Ireland a year ago. We settled down for a good chin wag.
When I went to pay it cost me $90  as I was charged for a long visit. Obviously she's saving up for the next holiday.
Got home and did some baking. Biscuits, cake & bread. Just sorted out Mt Ironing and the basket is now empty. Off to water the veggies shortly & sort out tea.
Granny Hope you feel a bit better soon. <hugs>
Bridie  Good luck with the veggie growing. Carrots are easy too. I've got a whole laundry basket I have to blanch and freeze this week.
Hope you all have a lovely day. Not too sure when I'll be back. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Good Morning All
N9eav - reminds me of Open All Hours when Granville was making firelighters in the shed :rotfl:
Candygirl (((hugs))) for you again today.
Hate Monday mornings, its very dark but the clocks go back next weekend dont they - time has flown.
Office work this morning then ironing this afternoon. Have leftover cabbage from yesterday so will make some mash this morning and have sausages tonight with bubble n squeak.
Have to fill in a job application today, its for a P/T Library supervisor, I applied recently for a Library assistant job (which I would prefer) but I did it online, didnt hear anything but when I spoke the Human Resources they advised me I should have got a confimation email so it seems my online application didnt go through. So this time I am doing it the old fashioned way. Not holding out too much hope but will give it a go.
Oh and picked up a pot and some salad leave seeds from the garden nursery - will get them planted today.
Have a great day.

Morning - I don't usually post in here but read everything avidly. As I've got a really busy day ahead (12 hours work I reckon) I won't be spending any money at all.
Actually yesterday I had a fab OS day - stayed in my pjs so didn't use any water showering, didn't dirty any clothes so nothing for the pile and used up half a chicken breast, some almost scabby asparagus spears, some wrinkled green beans, some dodgy mushrooms found in the salad drawer of 'fridge and some store cupboard pasta to make an enormous and filling evening meal. :j
For the next three days I have even meal planned and got the food in the freezer. NEVER been so organised before.0 -
Morning Chums,
Just starting to get light here in North Kent ,slight red sky so rain is on the way, well that, and my achy joints are telling me so. Must do a bit of ironing this morning to catch up on myself. Didn't have a good night last night as my shoulders felt very stiff. I'll be glad when the stitches are out. My DD said she will run me to college tonight so I won't have to drive there,I'm a bit nervous of pulling my scar about by driving just yet. I fancy making some hob-nobs a'la twink this morning so that should warm the kitchen up a bit . Have got Sausage and Mash and onion gravy for dinner tonight, I may make a rice pud to go with it.
Tomorrow I have my friend coming to visit for the day, so I am going to do a nice beef stew in the SC ,if I put it on before I go to bed tonight it will be perfect first thing in the morning, then I can do some herby dumplings as well.
One good thing about wintertime is the lovely smells that come from the kitchen. I am going to look for a new SC for my DD for a Christmas present as she 'borrowed' my one last week .She loved it as she said it worked better than her old one .Good job I got it back yesterday.
Condolences to candygirl on the loss of her Dad,he is at peace and out of pain now. <<hugs to those feeling low and 'mondayish' as well>>
I'm off to make some porridge to warm my cockles up,
Take care all and have a good day
JackieO xx0
