Hi girls,
Well, I think my daughter has decided on her dress!
We went to the Maggie designer day and 'Jodie' was lovely but a bit boring behind if you see what I mean but she did look gorgeous in 'Athena'.
We carried on to another shop that stocked Jenny Packham to see 'selene' and WOW! this dress was made for her! However at £2300 it's a bit ( a lot) out of her price range! We've ordered swatches from Milly and are trying to see if they can send us a sample of the 'real' silk to compare to the synthetic but it's difficult!
A year today! We've got to keep her moving!!! lol0 -

Hello everyone....... haven't posted on this website for ages and never in the 'wedding' section. I was referred here by another thread on YAYW.
Here's my dilimma: Tried on a Maggie that I do love, but want it made-to-measure because my measurements are awkward (I'm very short and the waist of a standard size lands around my hips). I can afford the £1250 but am worried that altering a standard size will end up being too difficult - especially when the inside of these dresses (from the shop, not Landy's) are so intricately made. Also I don't really like the bodice of the dress and want to alter the design a bit. It's strapless and I don't do strapless. The shop suggested chiffon straps but I want something that looks like it was meant to be there - matching the lace of the dress - and not something that was just 'stuck on' afterwards.
I don't mind paying for quality and one of the reasons I liked this dress so much in the shop was because the fabric was lovely, the lace, embroidery and beading was just beautiful.
I've read that Landy will upgrade their fabric and beading quality and wondered if anyone here has had that done? Would they send samples?
Please don't take offence, but some of the dresses I've seen here have what looks like puckering around the embroidery. Is this the quality of the needlework or is it just because the dresses needed steaming or pressing?
Hi sally.
As we've now spoken I understand your concerns. As I mentioned the beaded fabrics retail at around £30-£50 m and I'm not sure Landy use these qualities. A recent customer of theirs loved her dress but omitted to inform anyone that the beading/sequins on her dress were sub standard ( big silver sequins not clear) and she hoped to have them removed and new ones added. I wouldn't want that job! This is why you pay so much for beaded lace. When embroidering onto some fabrics, there is the danger of puckering. Most often a good press should remove this but if it isn't done correctly in progress, no amount of ironing will remove it.

MissK why the wobbles? I think it's stunning!!"I know that Prince Charming doesn’t come save me, we save each other and fight back to back against all comers that’s what marriage is to me. Nothing passive, no being carried off on a white steed, give me my own damn horse and lets ride into the sunset side by side." - Laurell K. Hamilton.0
