Depends on the fabric and how brave you are.
I iron most fabrics, including some silks but I know my iron setting and am used to the different fabrics.
If you are able, screw a small hook into a doorframe (heaven forbid) hang the gown on a hanger and then tie some string to the hanger and loop over the hook.
Check with the manufacturer of the dress or a sales associate at the store where you bought the gown to see what temperature setting you should use to iron the gown.
Try a small spot on the dress at first so you know you're using the right temperature setting and amount of pressure. Or if worried, place a white sheet between the fabric and the iron.
Work down the body of the gown first. Then iron the sleeves.
Now, hang the dress from the hook (with it's hanger) and begin working on the skirt. The reason you have string suspending the dress is, as you work arounf the skirt the hanger will spin freely on the string so as keeping the dress twist free.
End with ironing the hemline and the train if you have one.
Bodices heavily beaded if needing pressing which I doubt, should be ironed the wrong side. Do not attempt to iron lace with sequins.
Buying a hand steamer (great little gadget) is recommended or ask at your local dry cleaners if the do a pressing service.

I wish. The reason it is suggested in the bathroom is because of the steam. Let it hang for a few days in a room where there is little traffic.

looks just the ticket then flog it afterwards.
You could set up an online "pass the steamer" to brides in need.0 -
