oh dear.....a lot of tempers flaring, and everyone seems to be thinking the worst about everyone.

To answer the "noobie" (newbie) thing..........alot of us that have put our views forward recently, are on a different website, and all chat together daily. Thats why you prob got them all at once. reason being - a lot of us are very upset at how people (copy cat companies) are our there to ruin us and make us go bankrupt. (thats the only way to say it)

I'll be honest - I run a wedding shop......and I (hopefully from what my customers have said) have a fantastic shop with the best service i can give......why - because I care about what i do. BUT - at the end of the day - d'ya know what - Im no different to any of you lot......this is a JOB.

I think it's good you have been honest to say you run a wedding shop but tbh, i think its a little unnecessary for you all to join this board just to slate landy who are "out to ruin you, or make you go bankrupt" thats not our fault, if it wasn't landy or milly there would be another company and brides will still use them.

For someone to join and call someone else's dress Chavvy is completely un called for. Sometimes us brides on a very low budget cannot even afford samples, nor even attempt to go to a bridal shop for fear of being laughed out of the shop with our tiny budgets - it happens!. So Companies like Landy or Milly are our only option.

Now, I am sorry if using such companies means you could possibly end up losing your job, but surely this is the case with many other careers and with today's climate, with everyone opting for the cheaper option. For you all to join just to say this is pointless IMO, as most of us have already decided that landy or milly or other companies for that matter are the way to go. Yes some brides unfortunately dont get what they expected but, many, many are happy with using them.

So, I could be one of those "people" who puts the bridal shop out of business because, being a dressmaker, I can offer some products substantionally cheaper too.

This is the dress being made from these pictures forgetmenotdesigns.co.uk/naomi

and I've decided to be greedy as landy/milly are so cheap and i've ordered a 2nd dress that should be posted out end of this month.

    millybridal.com/store/comersus_viewItem1.asp?idProduct=124&idCategory=50

The dress i'm having made was £1,400 in the shop! I nearly died:eek: Where as these 2 dresses with postage has cost me £380 ...

So it's not the end of the world if it's not ok I will have one! :rotfl:

I wonder how many people are saying "yes, that's right. Absolutely" and nodding away like mad whilst reading this recent topic??
I'll be first to raise my hand.

;) Yes you could!! I'm sure people buying pre loved dresses could be blamed also!

As could debenhams, BHS and monsoon all sell wedding dresses all substantially cheaper than bridal shops.

I think what the retailers / seamstresses / industry based people are trying to get accross is this...............

Your on a budget, why not let "US" help you, instead of a dodgy factory that probably has children working there to produce something that is not as good? We want you to look fantastic too!!!.....and we need to get rid of samples sometimes! I often have a rail of gowns that are supposed to be £1000 upwards but I sell them at £199 just to get rid of them if they have been discontinued!

Thats why i said earlier that i would like suggestions of HOW we can help brides wanting the best but on a lower budget to some other brides?
Its like this fair trade thing....helping support people in this country!

As for the name calling and nasty comments on gowns.......I think theres no point to it, as everyone has different feelings, ideas, views and expectations.

Thank you for your honesty - it's a lot more helpful than a few people just appearing, stating how rubbish a company is, then disappearing again.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, it can't have been easy having someone on your case right after that :(

Now..can I be honest with you....

First of all, I dreaded going into a 'proper' bridal shop. In fact, I still have never been in one and I got married in May. I come with added curves and the thought of only being able to look at a couple of dresses in the 18+ range knocked my confidence, plus I don't 'do' trying on clothes and twirling about for people to look at me.:o

My budget could have been more than the £200 it cost me for my dress, but with 3 young children and a mortgage, I really do have other things that money can be better spent on.

Yes, perhaps I could have got a £199 'discontinued' dress....but what bride wants to have to 'make do' when she can have the dress she is in love with for a lesser price?' I didn't want a dress to fit my budget, I wanted my budget to fit my dress.

Surely, for every person using Landy/Milly etc, there are others who want the dress shopping experience and are willing to spend hundreds on their dream dress?

I don't know what to suggest that could start making brides choose UK shops instead of abroad, maybe a smaller mark up would bring in more business? Maybe stores could order dresses from abroad and start having a cheaper 'non designer' range?

What I do know is that this is a Moneysaving site, so obviously Landy supporters are going to be more numerous here. On other wedding boards I have seen, they are more likely to go with UK shops.

Also, we are happy to pay attention to any negative stories.....if, for example Chardonnay (no offence - just you're the most recent dress poster ;)) had posted saying she hated her dress, we would all have rallied round to support her and help her to sort it out as much as we could have. People appearing from nowhere with the express intention of slating Landy is obviously going to raise suspicion. If they had stated they were from another site, gave more details on the problems and maybe posted some pics of the offending dresses, then we would all have been a lot more open and responsive.
