LOL sounds like funTotal for 2009: L'Oreal Lip Duo, Diary, Motability Guide
Thanks to everyone who post comps - you are all :cool2:0 -
Just a thought, why is it no longer possible to hire wedding and bridesmaid dresses. This was something I looked into but could not find any shops that provided this service.
Just curious, I would have thought this would be good for bridal shops that have had to purchase the gowns that the prospective brides will be trying on, or is it a case that it costs too much for cleaning and repairs.
a very good question!!!
and i did try it for a while........
this is what happens->
the gowns you like arent always the right size, and they are very hard to alter, then re-alter to fit someone else - this also costs alot.
they arent normally the right length, meaning a hem can only be tacked and not shortened...meaning is scars the material and could get ripped and fall down on the day.
the gowns come back with fag burns in them - and stains that you wouldnt believe!! lol (my gown last year had a tear in it where I put my foot through the tulle at the bottom and looked black underneath! the venues floors mustve been spotless after i left!! lol)
they also cost a lot to dry clean, and wont often look perfect after being used once or twice before.
and last but not least........some people never bring them back!!!
by the time youve done - i could sell a sample cheaper to keep! lol:p0 -
scraggy - you hit the nail on the head!!!!
It costs us a fortune! and trust me, when your spending £20k at a time on stock twice a year............it soon adds up!!
I dont ever have spare cash after all the bills!........EVER! I just survive instead - and its not a business to be in if you ever see yourself being rich and ending up in the bahamas! (sp)
so when people ask why i do it - the answer is, because I love it! I still get tears in my eyes everytime i help someone find "the one" and them and the family are all crying with joy!.......and i love it when i see them all happy and excited about the whole day when they collect it all steamed and ready to go!0 -
now ive been sucked into this forum i will have to go see if i can help somewhere else on here! lol
Scraggy - if your in nottingham and derby area - i could use a 4th seamstress! lol0 -
gok, this thread has gone off topic and if you want to start a new thread asking for suggestions to make bridal shops more popular then feel free to.
the trouble is some of the posters from your other forum (which i had sussed you all came from) have done more harm than good and their nasty comments may have put more budget brides off using a bridal shop.
i just wanted to say that i am not one of the brides who by going to landy have stolen a sale from a uk bridal shop;). landy has allowed me to have a fabulous dress - far better than i could have afforded from a retail shop like m&s etc. if landy or others didn't exist then my aunt would have made my dress as she has made many wedding dresses and communion dresses etc.
i also wanted to add that i have never set foot in a bridal shop and therefore, have never wasted anyones time trying on dresses or trying to copy measurements. i just browsed online and found a dress i knew would suit me and got my aunt to measure me.
scraggy, the most important thing about my wedding day is marrying my htb, having a beautiful dress is just a bonus. married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090 -
Gok thanks for being so open an honest, can you tell me where you get your dresses from ie which country are they made in, and a question which I have asked before of bridal shops how much does a dress cost you & what is the mark up. I am genuinely interested. I couldn't afford a dress here anything like what I have ordered, Here it would be approx £1600 for my dress & bolero & my dd's flower girl dress, made to measure to the colours I want (how many Lavender wedding dresses are there esp in a size 24!!) is costing £290. I would have loved to walk into a shop here & tried on dresses 2 shops shooed me away when I opened the door as I didn't have an appointment before I'd even had a chance to speak. Another 1 told me they wouldn't have anything to suit my shape (translated quite simply to F.off FATTY!) Thats why when I found Landy & Milly I thought I might actually get a nice wedding dress, prior to that I got the feeling that the people in bridal shops (not you just the few I had been to) didn't think I deserved to have a lovely dress on my big day. That may well be my insecurities but these places didn't help at all. Apologies for wittering everyone.Booo!!!0

So you can't really say these are from Landy can you? These could have been made here in uk by a rubbish seamstress!!
Oopps sorry, off topic.0 -
