It is suspicious that we have no bad reviews on here for months and then all of a sudden we have like 3 newbies in the space of hours all posting bad reviews, which i suspect is the same person! One of whom claims to be knowledgable of fabrics and workmanship (bridal dress retailer?!) so if thats the case, why would you order from abroad at that price when you already know the costs mean that its going to be fabric of a standard lower than you can get over here in th UK!! It just doesnt make sense. I think this is just someone trying to put people off ordering from China to protect their own interests which is somewhat understandable but at the same time, not the way to go about it!
Buying anything over the internet is gamble. Especially when its such an important thing as your wedding dress!
I can't understand why some of you seem to think that 3 new posters will be just one?
I was in 2 minds whether to post again or not, however I have obvously decided to.
Please be clear that I have not 'slagged off' Landy bridal as I have not had any dealings with them, as I have said before I am mearly explaining my friend's experience. The dress she bought was not from Landy, nor was it pretending to be a copy, it was from China & ordered through a web site, but certainly was not the picture she ordered from.
All I am saying is be aware and be carefull. It is massive purchase that no one wants to get wrong. :beer:0 -
I don't know which companies these are from but maybe worth a look?

I booked by wedding at begging of February to get married 2 months later on 24th April.
There are a few problems with Bridal shops, most dresses have a 6 month turnaround, so only suitable if your wedding is a long way in advance.
Another problem, like Louise has said, Bridal shops only appear to stock very small sizes, I visited several bridal shops and not one of them had anything bigger than a size 16 (these are also more like a size 12 LOL).
The off the rail dresses that can be purchased are mainly size 12's, no good for me.
I ordered my dress from Landy and could not believe how well it had been made, with the sequence and boining on the bodice, 3 lares of material with lace at bottom. On the day everyone was saying how lovely it was.
Landy did make a mistake with my order, ie they got order numbers mixed up, and so only started making my dress on 21st March with the promise that I would have it on time. The dress arrived Easter Monday 13th, April and was perfect so they kept to their word.
I got so much support from this thread while going through the whole process, espcecially with the mixup of order numbers.
In conclusion, Bridal Shops need to stock bigger sizes at more realistic prices.0 -

ah ha........now we seem to be getting somewhere!
And yes - I agree with a lot of you on sizing in shops, and attitude from preople!! (not nice)
I was sat here nodding away........and yes everyone is also right - its not just Landy....its also Debenhams and Asda, and all those other places too that are killing a lot of retailers off.....
BUT - all these things that Brides dont like, like long deliveries and high prices and hardly any info on the gowns etc etc are put on our heads by the manufacturers! now i know if Landy can get you a gown in a few weeks, then ANYONE can do that...but I also know that its the companies we deal with that put these lines in place. We order from them now - they quote October.....we tell you Oct / Nov to be safe because Ive seen the sheer panic in a brides face when its 3 weeks to ther wedding and the gown hasnt cleared customs yet! Eeeeek:eek:
I also have to think about a fantastic seamstress having to alter gowns round the clock for around 50 weddings a month - plus bridesmaids on top - and sods law they all want a Sat appointment because they work all week - leaving 4 whole days clear in one month for that many fittings!
In a perfect world I would LOVE to say - yeah you can have your gown in 6 weeks - but the companies i deal with dont work like that. They have fuel quotas to fill and when they are full - they cant get anything else in the UK. Also productions lines say they are too busy to take any more orders.............shame really - but thats just what I have to work with.
the lady on here that makes them (sorry not clued up with this website) - no you prob wont make one of us go bankrupt (lol) - but it is nice that you are offereing something for the people that need it, and send them elsewhere if you cant!!!!
The post on Samples and "settling" for something cheap........ah ha my dear you havent seen what i have on ebay! lol All of my gowns are dry cleaned very often - may have only the slightest bit of dust under the trains, and need very few touch ups to make them brand new again! (loose bead and maybe a few loose threads) and the structure they give you is amazing! (you have to take my word for it!)......to be honest they prob are better than some of the cheaper things from other places....but i can see why not everyone will realise that. its like saying hers something new costs £100. Heres something used NOW costs £100 - most people would instunctivly go for new - just because. lol
As for buying cheaper stuff for my shop - Oh MY GOD have i tried - Ive got a garage full of crap! Im not kidding, i cant shift it AT ALL!! I had gowns in once selling for £250 - £400 that werent designer. I thought "yeah, get them for the people on a tighter budget".....didnt work - why? they looked cheap and tacky next to the other gowns and most people would go for the top seller from a designer at £550 instead of something nearly see-through!
As for telling you my shop? Am i allowed to do that on here? And do i Dare? lol
Might get something nasty in the post!?
Oh, and as for the sizing thing! (louise i think it is) Yes your damn right they shouldnt only stock size 8 - 12's, which is why i carry all sizes from 8 - 30 on shop floor! and Ive seen curves and bumps and bits and bobs in all sorts of places - you shouldnt be worried at all when looking for a gown.....but there again, you've prob heard all the dreaded stories about all the nasty shops- so cant blame ya!
one down side to that - you never want the gown in the size i have it in! Sods law my size 20 girls want to try the size 10 and vice versa! (cant ever win)
A lot more shop owners are doing this now - i know i started 5 years back in the 16-30 sizing when i had a girl in tears been kicked out of a posh shop (not there anymore) because they said "we dont have anything for you". She was a size 22 and had one of the biggest tulle gowns from us we had at the time, and i will remember it forever - that turned us around and made us invest more in the gowns.........but guess what - they still end up on ebay after a while!
All in all - the blame can be pointed to them up there in government cause the whole country is in "save" mode......
and anyone selling gowns can be held responsible too - but it'd be a lot easier for us if there werent as many copy companies around - because we wouldnt feel like we are being used as a fitting room! if they are going to sell cheaper gowns they should have NEW / ORIGINAL ideas and designs.
I get that alot - and yeah sure i can understand why people order from places like Landy, and thats fine, but the thing that makes it horrible for us is that brides book in to see people like me first and get the "fun" of the day trip out with family......spend 2 hours with me getting the very best undivided treatment, only for them to go off and buy the fake on the net. That to me is the worst thing someone could do to me - dont get me wrong - I'll help you in anyway i can - i'll tell you where to get cheaper things if i cant get them - I'll tell you want would suit you....but when these people waste 4 appointments out of 8 every saturday, it makes us loose the will to live, we loose the brides that do want to shop with us, and we loose a little bit of faith in the next bride every time.
Oh i could tell you some stories about the things ive seen..................Think I'll write a book! lol
(think ive lost the plot with this thread now - off for a cuppa!)

Well said gok....and I wasn't being nasty about the dress I was merely stating that the origional dresses are more beaded...I am a seamstress who also does alterations for a bridal shop, and I have altered many dresses bought from bridal shops and the net...and yes you can definately tell the difference..all i want to say is ...don't expect your copy to look like the origional picture...and don't expect the fabric to be the same quality......I also know how frustrating it is for shop owners who set aside a 2 hour appointment for someone who is just trying on styles to see what suits only to buy from the internet....I don't understand why the bridal shop is also always accused of ripping off brides ...they use the same mark up as say a washing machine..or even a pint of milk so why does the dress always get the agro..when infact it IS the most important thing for the day...one thing I didn't realise is that bridal shops have to buy all their samples they don't get them free ...not only that but they have to buy so many each year..this costs the shops thousands just to keep the latest styles for brides to choose from...tell you what there is no way I would run a bridal shop...I prefer a wage.....0

Just a thought, why is it no longer possible to hire wedding and bridesmaid dresses. This was something I looked into but could not find any shops that provided this service.
Just curious, I would have thought this would be good for bridal shops that have had to purchase the gowns that the prospective brides will be trying on, or is it a case that it costs too much for cleaning and repairs.0 -
Oh my goodness just logged on for the first time in a few days (been v busy with the big day next week
