You do....quite right and thats why most of us on here are going for a Landy / Milly dress!
If you think about it there probably can never be a more fussier/picky/difficult customer than a 'bride to be' choosing a wedding dress. We want it all - dont we ladies? If Landy had had several bad reviews, I'm sure some of us would've had serious doubts about ordering from them?
I've spent hours researching them - looked at all of their feedbacks in their Ebay shop, read reviews etc etc. I would've loved to hear some constructive criticism about them, rather than just a bit of a slagging off session without any pics! I'm not saying Landy are 100% perfect - the communication can be a bit iffy, swatch ordering a bit of a minefield but they do make thousands of beautiful dresses, at a price thats so much more affordable for someone like me.

I'm astounded by the quality of their dresses, and I for one will know "I got my dress right" on my wedding day - it's FABULOUS and I will feel like a million dollars.
Women marry men hoping they will change, men marry women hoping they won't! Inevitably they will both be disappointed.

Thing is msh, you get criticism from brides buying here in uk stores too. Shop assistants are snooty. She made me order a dress 2 sizes to big. I have to pay loads for alterations. The list is endless. At the end of the day the only person who can say whether something is good or bad is you, the customer. You can buy a leuttace from Asda and it could be rotten. Does that mean you should tell everyone about it to avoid their fruit and veg dept?
It's all very well to warn people of a product, but with "sensitive brides" there is a way you deliver the news. Buying something as massive as your wedding gown over the internet is a scary thing to do. Because it HAS to be right.

I think we should all draw a line under these posts yesterday. It is suspicious that we have no bad reviews on here for months and then all of a sudden we have like 3 newbies in the space of hours all posting bad reviews, which i suspect is the same person! One of whom claims to be knowledgable of fabrics and workmanship (bridal dress retailer?!) so if thats the case, why would you order from abroad at that price when you already know the costs mean that its going to be fabric of a standard lower than you can get over here in th UK!! It just doesnt make sense. I think this is just someone trying to put people off ordering from China to protect their own interests which is somewhat understandable but at the same time, not the way to go about it!

I worked for a very well known retailer and let me tell you for every hundred products we sold we'd two or three that were sub standard and for which we had complaints about.

Buying anything over the internet is gamble. Especially when its such an important thing as your wedding dress! However, for some people, like me, you have no choice and its a risk you weigh up and are willing to take. For every bad dress thats made think of all the brill reviews we've had already.

I for one am happy enough with all the great dresses ive seen on here and other sites to go ahead and order when my time comes.

I worked for Pronuptia years ago and was appauled at the then £1,000 beaded dresses. The applique beaded lace panels were roughly stitched over a hole cut in the skirt of the fashion fabric. Most cases satin. These "holes" were left to fray. Not good workmanship for a £1,000 dress. Hemline scallop lace was stuck on.
The Chinese have a market inwhich they are in demand and provide a service for millions worldwide. It isn't even worth trying to compete with them. Any retailer/dressmaker will lose. What they have to do is find their own place in the market and provide a service which will encourage customers to buy from them.
And yes, Pickle, buying anything over the net is a gamble. Much like my daughters Medium Brown Bag. Wasn't brown it was sludge green. My attitude? You ain't gonna get a genuine bloomingdales bag for £12!!!
You just have to have the right attitude and when you do, you aren't disappointed. I did, she didn't!!!
A member on YAYW said she had a disposable amount to spend £3,000 on a designer dress if she wanted, yet chose to order offshore. I think if you are rich enough to be able to afford £3,000, you won't go offshore. You are going to want that original.
Debenhams have bridesmaids dresses at £120. They aint brill (with my dressmakers hat on) but to a bride with a budget they will be just the ticket. It's all down to money and landy are fierce competitors with many many satisfied clients. Soeth rested the case.:D

Get your facts right, I haven't slated Landy at all, i have just told you about my friend's experience.
Listen to what ever you like and read into it whatever you like as I am sure you will.
You only get one chance to get your wedding dress right!!!!!!

There's no need to be abrupt with me thank you very much, I didn't specify which noob, i was generalising. As others have said forgive us if we don't believe what you say as you have nearly no posts and just seem to want to tell us about landy. We've seen this many times before, maybe we're just better to ignore.
Yes people have had problems with Landy but that is a small percentage, and you get what you pay for. Most brides cannot afford a £1000 dress to wear for a few hours and will want to spend the money on other things.

I too am satisfied with reviews and have seen some landy dresses in the flesh and they are pretty good for the money. But it is each to their own i suppose, Landy can't please everyone.
  • oh dear.....a lot of tempers flaring, and everyone seems to be thinking the worst about everyone.

To answer the "noobie" (newbie) thing..........alot of us that have put our views forward recently, are on a different website, and all chat together daily. Thats why you prob got them all at once. reason being - a lot of us are very upset at how people (copy cat companies) are our there to ruin us and make us go bankrupt. (thats the only way to say it)

I'll be honest - I run a wedding shop......and I (hopefully from what my customers have said) have a fantastic shop with the best service i can give......why - because I care about what i do. BUT - at the end of the day - d'ya know what - Im no different to any of you lot......this is a JOB. It pays me a small salary - and I can tell you for a fact i used to earn double by working for Dixons years ago! It pays my Mortgage, bills, my daughters school dinners, and for petrol and food. I work 6 days a week - I never switch off. I have customers texting me all hours of the night if they want to ask something, and I always reply. I have cried over the abuse that people have given me when they turn into bridezillas (not for any reason to do with my shop - just that they have had family issues and things like that, but we are the ones that get the grief as they dont see the photographer, cakemaker and florist on a monthly basis).
I nearly had a breakdown over the stress of one bride. I had to work with a broken collar bone, the very next day. I had to come back to work on the day i found my (quite old) dad had passed away - I FOUND HIM in his bed and I had to come back to work and take abuse from a customer because she had gained 2 dress sizes. (she admitted that she hadnt been to weight watchers like she said)
Oh - and i NEVER get a holiday until Xmas.

Why would we do this if we didnt care about EVERY brides wedding as though it was our own?

I also got married last year - i spent about £5K on the whole day - so yes i was on a budget too, and no we couldnt afford a honeymoon!

I think what the retailers / seamstresses / industry based people are trying to get accross is this...............

Your on a budget, why not let "US" help you, instead of a dodgy factory that probably has children working there to produce something that is not as good? We want you to look fantastic too!!!.....and we need to get rid of samples sometimes! I often have a rail of gowns that are supposed to be £1000 upwards but I sell them at £199 just to get rid of them if they have been discontinued!

Thats why i said earlier that i would like suggestions of HOW we can help brides wanting the best but on a lower budget to some other brides?
Its like this fair trade thing....helping support people in this country!

As for the name calling and nasty comments on gowns.......I think theres no point to it, as everyone has different feelings, ideas, views and expectations.

Oh, and i do agree - there are some nasty shop owners out there - trust me i know a few (and they really should quit or get punched by someone!)!!! But we arent all like that......Its just that we get tarnished with the same brush!

    hurrah!
Well done for saying that, and good on you for being honest.
The wedding industry is very competitive which with companies like landy and milly is very unfortunate for you. Equally other people that run bridal shops and have not treated their customers in the best manner also make it hard for you too as it can put little confidence in people wanting to buy from bridal shops.

I'm sure you can appreciate that we have people coming on the boards ALL the time trying to slate companies and sell stuff to us, hence the reaction to the sudden influx of new people. So forgive us if we find some people hard to believe.
But as i said well done for telling us your POV.

I run my own business too but what you won't be thanked for is slating these companies to the ladies here. They don't appreciate it!
You have to be here to lend an ear, to help in a crisis, not preach about wanting to keep trade in this country. As i said before, you cannot compete with offshore stores so no point in even trying, especially coming here and slating. If i am approached privately by a member I offer the best quote i can but still reccomend they get other quotes. I tell them i cannot compete with offshore and am never offended if they chose that route.
Helping out can be time consuming but you have to respect the client if she chooses to go for the only option in her budget.

That's business for you. Get that in every walk of life I'm afraid. You gotta do something to set yourself out from the rest and slagging off Landy/milly aint the way to do it.
