No, just an active MSE member who likes to see positive or constructive comments, but never nasty or inappropriate comments that are designed to upset or offend.

I have not made any nasty or inappropriate comments, nor have I aimed to upset or offend anyone.
I have told a truthfull story, I believe it was you who started the nasty comments.

Chardonnay - I didn't say my friend bought it off ebay I said that she had bought it from a website - then sold it on ebay. How glad she was to see the back of it, it's probably still bouncing around in ebay land.

I am under the disillusion that forums are for people to post their opinions and help each other like humans should do, apparently that is not the case if they happen to clash with the oppinion of MadMac :p

hello trolls - the point is most peoples first posts here are saying hello or asking for advice

you aren't going to make friends preaching to people, so either post the pics or have fun annoying someone somewhere else

What a coincidence that you all found the site at the same time. :D

woah whats with all the noobs?
How coincidental they're all slating landy hummm.

and whoever said about the beading/sequins on chardonnay's dress, yes the original does have more but as chardonnay said it is a copy and obviously won't have all of that on it, but it still is stunning.

thanks everyone. i've actually had a closer look at my dress and the pictures i posted and there are loads more beads on my dress than my pictures show (sorry camera has a crap zoom). where every sequin is, there are at least 3 beads on the embroidery.

Chardonnay - Wow... I have never seen another bride wear a dress anything like yours. You will definitely be a show stopper on the day! It's such an interesting design, i love the purple and all the detail on it. I'm such a nosy wedding snoop, i love looking at all the different dresses brides wear. Congratulations on the wedding and the dress! Beautiful!

Get your facts right, I haven't slated Landy at all, i have just told you about my friend's experience.
Listen to what ever you like and read into it whatever you like as I am sure you will.
You only get one chance to get your wedding dress right!!!!!!
  • I'd be glad of a few less sequins - makes it damn heavy LOL

When I was in the shop Saturday I was wondering if it was a landy dress that they'd just marked up to £800!!! now I've seen your's I'm pretty sure it is ;)

each to their own now folks. :) play nice.

Ladies, I think we have to accept that where there is good, there is bad and as many here like to rant about their positive experiences, some are allowed to rant about their negative ones. Many ladies here have had super dresses. Chardonnay's looks wonderful as did Tigerlilly's when she posted hers, but sometimes there are disasters. I have been in contact with 2 ladies who have had such. One UK and one in Sweden. (I was almost international at one point lol)
I also belong to a sewing forum where we do have photos posted of offshore disasters and help-me-fix-it questions.
The reason these companies don't go out of business is because they (hopefully) don't have as many disasters as success.
My take on it is this. The reason the poster's friend was dissatisfied is because she didn't get her "copy" Under UK law, you are not allowed to produce a copy. Copyright theft and all of that. The images on web sites such as Landy/Milly are in my opinion (because I don't have out right proof) lifted from designers web sites. Plus the fact they blatently state "Alfred Angelo" "Maggie Sottero" "Hollywood Dreams" etc.
This is part of a discussion we had in the sewing forum about these sites. This is from another member, not me.

In the case of the Chinese companies, the Chinese government doesn't take action to uphold trade agreements, and the rest of the world doesn't want to upset China.

I haven't looked it up in a while, but the only thing remotely helpful done in this area was when the EU refused to make wedding dresses a different quota category from normal dresses.
It was the big manufacturers who were asking for it, because they'd have big trouble if the quota was met and imports blocked (they'd have to find a way to supply ordered dresses), but it would hit the rip-off sellers too.

Of course, I'm of the opinion that anybody buying one of these dresses is getting what they ask for if it turns up as a bedsheet - and that they should be treated in the same way that they would if they were caught downloading music illegally or file sharing. They often talk about the price, but you can get perfecty good dresses made here for the prices they're paying to the Chinese (etc), and from better fabric.

Big difference is that the entertainment industry have lobbied powerfully for action to be taken. The wedding (and clothing in general) industry is sitting back and letting it happen, and doing nothing at all. If they wanted to the big companies (whose pictures are nicked and used on ebay, etc), could get onto the site owners, or internet companies and insist that they're removed immediately. They don't. I've never understood why.

It doesn't make good reading for those who are delighted with their gowns, and the truth is, the Chinese can offer gowns at much cheaper prices. I cannot compete with many of them. Bridesmaids are a little different however.
So, when you have a product you are happy with, you are biased to the extreme (or should I say protective because of a good service you have received) just the same as when you get a dud deal. This is the gamble you take. I personally find it kind of laughable that if you take this gamble and get the dud, you kind of asked for it really.
