OS Thread - Sunday 19th October

Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for Sunday 19th October. It is an 'over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.

morning.gifeveryone!!

A few pics for you to show off my latest crops of peppers and chillis, and the last of the carrots - well, one carrot...:rotfl:

Beth, don't stop posting, I am still chattering away as best I can and trying to add what little OS I have done, even if it's only the meals I am cooking!

Welcome back Snowy - nice to see you, sorry you are out of work and that Dylan gets better soon, I know when my Treacle Pudding cat.gif was ill earlier in the year I was in a real state!
PenPenguin - some very useful cleaning tips: spray polish around the room just before people get home (or spray onto radiators if they are on, so the smell permeates) and leave the upright hoover in the middle of the room with a duster draped on it so it looks like they caught you in mid flow..:rotfl:
Nice to see you posting here FrugalSwan
wave.gifat everyone.

Ok, onto my OS stuff - going to cook sausage meat patties for dinner as they are delicious and there are always plenty left for lunch or dinner tomorrow too. Still resisting putting the heating on, but the wooly jumpers are out of the cupboards that is for sure!

*whispers* My cheesecake prize arrived yesterday by courier at around lunchtime so is in the fridge defrosting. It takes 10 hrs so that gives you some idea of how fat it is...:rotfl:It is probably ready now but I can't face it yet.. However I do anticipate eating a little of that today... thumbsup_anim.gif

smileyhug.gifto all who need them and congrats to anyone who is celebrating today.

P.S. Sorry this is so long..

Good morning everyone. I'm going away later today and will be back on Friday. I will call in and see how the thread is going when I come back. I haven’t posted because I’ve not done much in the way of OS over the last couple of days and,TBH, I don't want to talk ONLY about the cooking and the housework because other things go on in life, like family, work and so on, but I find it difficult to curb my natural instinct to chat! I’m too long in the tooth to change the way I am so will probably just lurk from now on and call in occasionally. Of course, I’ll still be posting and updating on the Wooligans ‘Knit Your Square’ thread (knitting related talk only, no going off-topic!).

Lots of (((hugs))) to everyone, especially those who are ill or anxious.

    Morning.

The daily thread has been decimated I see by annoying political correctness....very disapointing. Sorry Mioliere. Pant's is'nt it?

Chruch today and then laze about in the afternoon. My daughter went to Plymouth with the OH yesterday to spend her birthday money, but found nothing much. Seems sometimes that the bigger the city the harder the shopping is? I made a huge chicken and ham pie with the leftovers and that went down well with the last of the home grown potatoes.

I have got to arrange some flights for a lady at our church now. She want sot go to Jamaica in Jan (she comes from there), so I am going to try and find her a deal. She has specific requirements and so there won't be much choice left on price me thinks.
    Have a good day
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!
  • Morning,

N9eav, yep it is definitely pants..! Such a shame. So many seem to have been driven away or only now post very very rarely (me included) - whichI think means we will lose an awful lot of knowledge/inspiration which was exactly what brought us here in the first place!! And it's always the way - when you have money there's nothing you want to buy. Of course, when you're skint, there's loads.... Chicken & ham pie sounds lovely, I love sausage pie too.
Mioliere, have a great time away, I am doing/feeling much the same as you. Struggling with knowing what to post as I too don't always manage loads of OS stuff some days (as life takes over) but that doesn't mean I don't aspire and try to be. I hope the "cosiness" comes back soon somehow.
Diva, wow, you are doing a fantastic job with your chilis & peppers - and don' forget... I know your hiding place for cheesecake :):)

OS STUFF: Got my energy saving monitor from EON & set it up, but need to establish which region I am in for their economy 7 times (as it varies). Youngest DD keeps going round turning everything off now, which is good. Need to hoover round everywhere, many more dust bunnies now I have changed from carpet to laminate. No wonder the carpets used to get so grubby if that's what was going into them.
Need to go to Mr T's this morning to get a few bits of basics, and think I will get some pork to roast for dinner later.

Have a good day, ((((hugs)))) for those needing them and for those who are just feeling a bit peed-off with everything.

    Good Morning All

Diva - Enjoy the cheesecake - loved the photos
Mioliere - enjoy the time with your Mum.

OK - here's my OS stuff for today - will find some washing todo & line dry. Need to clean kitchen worktops in a minute and of course I will use stardrops.

Dinner today is Roast Pork from the butchers which I will do in the Remoska. Will also make some bread later for sandwiches tonight (have a craving for egg mayo!) This morning while OH & DS at football will do as much ironing as possible.

Non OS - this afternoon we will watch a DVD together then wait for the Strictly results - cant decide who I want to go this week - guess Andrew Castle.

Off to finish my coffe - have a great day.

    Morning :hello:

The meal last night was lovely :D They had some staff off sick, so they were rushing round like loons but still managed to look cheery. Uncle-in-law complained to the manager about EVERYTHING, I was so mad with him. The manager said we could have the lot for free (think she just wanted him to shut up). So I went off to find the manager at the end of the night and told that I didn't share his views at all, if I was her I wouldn't have given the meals for free and we will be coming back, just not with U-I-L. She burst out laughing :rotfl:

I've finished my Christmas cards, got a good stock of them. I'm starting on valentine's cards tomorrow (I need a day off today lol). So today I'm going to do one lot of handwashing and catch up with the ironing. The cupboards and freezers are pretty much full so no cooking here woohoo-smiley.gif I defrosted a cake yesterday, so will ice that today. Then eat it :D
    I am a coffee bean
  • Morning everyone

1 load of ironing to do today - which should only take about 40 minutes :T Bedding needs washing on ours and DD's bed, I'll chuck the shower curtain in as well and then there will be no washing left to do - hurrah!! Till tomorrow ;)

Sainsburys delivery today, including the following bits for Christmas: tree chocolates, taste the difference chipolatas, and cans of coke. Getting a few bits each week will hopefully reduce our Christmas bill nearer the time :D

B: Doughnuts and coffee (Sunday treat)
    L: Scrambled eggs and bacon
D: Roast chicken and all the trimmings

The rest of the day will be taken up with studying

    Have a great day everyone
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)

    Morning all :)

Busy day for me....so why am I sat here?! :D

All the family around for tea, including Mum's and various Aunts and sisters home for the weekend...so will end up cooking for 20 today...eeek

Never mind, it's only once a fortnight and it's great to have all the family together.

Hubby's gone off to work with a pack-up and I've got lovely fresh veg to prepare...does anyone else get a kick from peeling parsnips and carrots and chopping up cabbage?...must just be me then lol

It's a crisp Autumn day here ....so the grandkids will be able to ride their bikes round the house to their hearts content and argue over their conker collecting...doesn't seem long since their Mums were doing just the same thing...where do the years go?

Hope everyone has a good day and stay warm :)

    Morning all,
Well, I'll continue to post and if I stray and end up in the Headmasters office then I'll appologise and get my coat.

DH and I spent most of y/day afternoon pealing and blanching apples, I weighed them ( 18.4lbs ) portioned and froze most. I made the braid, delish, and a cake. Cooked lamb shanks in red wine for dinner.

I'm doing roast pork with all trimings for DH, I'm having fish salad. Need to stardrops the bathrooms and swish kitchen floor.

I looked at DD2's scan photo and went onto a web site that Candygirl kindly gave me. Tells you how to sex a baby, It's deffinatly a girl. CANDYGIRL, when does your DD have her scan, and does she want to know the sex?

SMOKY, glad your DS enjoyed his Birthday. 3.30am!! you must be shatered.

I spoke to DB1 last night, he is coming to stay in Nov. There's a night Carnival in Somerset so he's coming over for that. We always have a house full, this year we will have 24 staying. I have started cooking and freezing. So far I have 12lbs of beef curry and 10lbs of chilli. but loads more other sfuff to do.
My DM and DB2 are also coming to stay, it will be the first time the 4 of us have been together in 13yrs. I'm so looking forward to it.
There will be 8 veggies to cater for so thought of cauli & brocc cheese, a huge bowl of roast veg and some quiches. Any suggestions welcomed.

Any hoo up and on, have a good day all.

haven't posted since last week and only posted then coz i'd added my twopenneth to the 'debate' - i've only read whats been said this morning - don't have time to keep up with this thread - and, what a shame:confused: - what happened to 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'?

just to make sure this doesn't get deleted - made some twinks last night and going to make lentil & bacon soup, apple crumble and mince & dumplings today - soup will go in the freezer for lunches through the week.

    take care everyone

    Morning all!

Hiya Outrageous Monkey, nice to see you posting here! Hope that ds2 is on the mend now and that ds1 had a fab trip.

Weather is gloomy and overcast, thankfully I'm not taking ds to rugby this morning! Will be popping out to Mr T's in a bit cos I want the free Tina Turner cd from the Mail, I've got the album but nothing to play it on as it's one of those big black cd's as dd3 calls them! I shall then play it loudly whilst I tootle about in the kitchen.

Lunch today is going to be toad in the hole as I forgot to get the meat out of the freezer yesterday, lol! Now as I can't cook yorkies I'm slightly stumped, but I'm going to give it another bash, will tell the kids its pancakes and sausages otherwise! Pud will be something wonderful - ha ha! Prob banoffee pie if the dulche de leche works out ok in the jam make (have I mentioned that I love it still?!)

Need to send the girls out to pick the crab apples so I can make crab apple and chilli jelly later, can then get some of the many jars cluttering the kitchen filled and put out in the garage.

Washing and ironing will need to be fitted in, as always. BM is on and will need to go on again later for tomorrows sarnies, will also need to make some muffins and more yoghurt as well. Planning to have a go at soft cheese with the leftover yoghurt, found Celyn's recipe/tips on another thread so thanks, and where are you? Still sleeping or off on your break still?

Also scheduling in a nap this afternoon to sleep off lunch, is that OS, guess it's energy saving!

Hugs to all who need them, and I hope that things return to normal soon! xx

    Edit:

Gtx - thanks for the reminder about Twinks, need to make some of those too, couple of the girls friends want the recipe as well! Def OS if it's encouraging peeps to cook!

Beth - I love carnival season, it was Taunton last night, it was getting really busy as we left. My friend always does a huge bowl of roast potatoes, well several bowls actually, as part of her buffet and they are so yummy when you walk into the house feeling cold! Sadly she no longer lives in a house on the carnival route, but yippee some other friends do, so we shall be at their house instead for the North Petherton one. Kids also want to go and see the squibbing this year,so shall prob take them to Bridgwater as they're old enough now I think. For anyone who hasn't seen the carnivals down here I can thoroughly recommend them.
