I have given and received so much on freecycle - I love it, and yes, it is definitely addictive :)

    I have given away:
Stereo cabinet, 2 book cases, television unit, coat, plant pots, fondue kit, facial sauna, books, loads of packaging, chocolate sprinkler, silk dressing gown, contact lenses, hair clippers, kitchen bits and pieces, huge Friends mug, stereo, computer games, candles and vase, manicure/pedicure set, thank you cards, ,book chair, wine holder/pourer, car blind, chocolate monopoly, gravity strider, herb planter, 30 cookery books

Wow - that's quite a lot when I write it all down  They have all gone to really good homes though, so that's the main thing.

I have received some real treasure too:
trampoline, blackcurrant bushes, seeds, baskets, apple tree twigs (for my rabbits), jars, aerolatte thingy, pasta making machine, ......

Some Freecycle forms are a bit like that but having membership approved stops the email harvesters from rampaging through the site so it protects all the members.

  • I'm a Freecycle Noob, but I gave away my first item today! :) It was a memory card for a Sony ericsson that I had left over from a recent eBay selling surge. The person who got it was a lady who wanted it for her daughter but couldn't afford a.t.m. I feel good now... :D

I'm a Freecycle addict (and spent two years as a moderator of our local group, which was the first group in the UK) and have given away everything from a set of bedding to a car.

At the same time, I've also got a really lovely full room carpet, a king size futon sofa bed, all the furniture for my upstairs rooms and lots of things for the local charities I work for. I must have saved hundreds personally and been given goods worth a similar amount for charity.

I Freecycle for all of my family, so I've always got a huge pile of things to give away that aren't needed any more but which are too good to throw away.

You will see I am perfectly sane.'

For those of you in groups that insist on an OFFER before you can post a WANTED, the Freecycle Chairman has told all groups that they must not do this, because it goes against the status of being a registered charity. (or something like that).

That said, its a good thing anyway, 99% of people will have some junk somewhere they can get rid of.... :D
As for the amount of mail ou get, try being a mod on Freecycle, being in all the surrounding groups and support groups, I don't get a hundred mails a day, I get that amount an hour (well - seems like it lol).

I feel like I've been trying to join freecycle for forever

I requested to join my local group months ago, clicked the link in the email to confirm I wanted to join then my membership got stuck as 'pending' and I didn't hear anything again.

Then I got talking to one of my neighbours who said that I need a yahoo email address for it to work. So I've dutifully signed up for a yahoo email account (my name @ rocketmail.com - not sure if it makes any difference ) and requested to join again but I've got stuck at the same hurdle.

its making me want to throw stuff in the bin because I'm sick of looking at it/trying to get rid of it

Just a moan really. It's no one's fault as such.

We replaced our bed on Saturday.

The old one, whilst servicable, only a few years old, was offered on Freecycle on Saturday afternoon/evening, as opposed to just taking it to the tip on Sunday. I made it perfectly clear that it had to go on Sunday, or it would be chucked.

I got two responses. I replied to one on the basis that the woman had a genuine need for it and would therefore be motivated to collect it promptly.

Then I heard nothing. I left my phone number for her to contact to arrange. But nothing, absolutely nothing.

By Sunday evening I thought I would give it one more try.

I e mailed the other respondent I had tried earlier, and also posted another ad. I also answered a wanted ad on the same group.

Out of that I got three people who wanted it. 2 couldn't collect till Thursday and the third wanted me to deliver it to a town 20 miles away!

    Dream on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, but I've done my bit now. It's going to the tip where it was going on Sunday
