Freecycle (merged)

I empathise with you - I've actually given up with my local freecycle group, I now take things direct to the tip or take them to the local charity shop. The people who use my local group want IPods, widescreen plasmas, boats, cars and laptops so generally are uniterested in anything I have to offer! It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.0

Just a moan really. It's no one's fault as such.
We replaced our bed on Saturday.
The old one, whilst servicable, only a few years old, was offered on Freecycle on Saturday afternoon/evening, as opposed to just taking it to the tip on Sunday. I made it perfectly clear that it had to go on Sunday, or it would be chucked.
I got two responses. I replied to one on the basis that the woman had a genuine need for it and would therefore be motivated to collect it promptly.
Then I heard nothing. I left my phone number for her to contact to arrange. But nothing, absolutely nothing.
By Sunday evening I thought I would give it one more try.
I e mailed the other respondent I had tried earlier, and also posted another ad. I also answered a wanted ad on the same group.
Out of that I got three people who wanted it. 2 couldn't collect till Thursday and the third wanted me to deliver it to a town 20 miles away!
Dream on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, but I've done my bit now. It's going to the tip where it was going on Sunday
i can understand what you saying but mabey the other 2 who couldnt pick up till thursday didnt have big enough transport so were relying on others to help them.. maby if you have big enough transport to take to the dump you could have offered to deliver locally for a few pounds to cover petrol costs..
bigger items on freecycle sometimes need to be sorted for transport but its rude of others to ask and not keep in touchThose we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,

Ive offered a few things on freecycle and havent had any problems with offering larger items.
You have to remember not everyone checks their emails on a regular basis, or has access to transport, so you have to give them a couple of days to sort something out.
Collecting your item on Thursday is quite reasonable i think and i have allowed people to come here to pick up items within a week of me offering it.0 -
I feel like I've been trying to join freecycle for forever
I requested to join my local group months ago, clicked the link in the email to confirm I wanted to join then my membership got stuck as 'pending' and I didn't hear anything again.
Then I got talking to one of my neighbours who said that I need a yahoo email address for it to work. So I've dutifully signed up for a yahoo email account (my name @ rocketmail.com - not sure if it makes any difference ) and requested to join again but I've got stuck at the same hurdle.
its making me want to throw stuff in the bin because I'm sick of looking at it/trying to get rid of it
Hi Rachel. If you PM me with the name of your local group i'll see what I can dig up.
Some Freecycles are in the process of changing over from Yahoo to the Freecycle.org.... you may have got lost in transit!** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
I've been using freecycle for just over a year now and I love it.
The only thing that annoys me is when you've replied to someone saying they can have the item you're giving away they don't bother to turn up to collect it:mad: especially when you've had lots of replies and you have chosen them especially0 -
i have a moses basket that i have tried to freecycle 3 times and no ones bothered its perfectly good ..just not in a sellable condtion because one of the bungs on the stand is missing..someone just needs to put a beer mat under it its not as if babys move that much when they are that young!total debt 4711.00 at lbm (4217.31) dfd aug 2012  overdraft 800 (400.00) kill overdraft first, loan 1500.00 ,creditcard 2411.000

I agree that can be a pain!
Why people ask for something and then don't turn up I don't know.** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
hi all,i joined freecycle about a month ago,its been a godsend to me,due to my metal bed collapsing a few years ago,(being propped up with books ever since)i was really thankful to the lady who posted the offer of a bed,it was my first time on freecycle and i was totally stunned when i heard back from her to ask me when i would like to collet the bed,we made arrangements for collection and she was a very nice lady, and the bed was beautiful,i have only just posted my first item to offer someone today, but already i feel good,as im helping in some way, freecycle is a helping hand to many people,i imagine there are those who abuse it,but they are far outnumbered by the genuine people who give with a good heart,0

I have stopped offering things on freecycle mainly because people are rude - although I once offered 12 bags of prawn cocktail crisps (I can't stand them) and 64 replies:eek: I notice that on my local freecycle people have started being silly and asking for cars - they even specify the make and model they want and the registration plate (it beggars belief):rolleyes:0
