With our group you have to offer something first before you can want something.

I have gotten rid of a small crockpot and a huge bag of jamjars, I have received a box of vintage christmas decorations and a huge crate of twinlock crystalfiles and the lady knew that I was setting up my own business and chucked in a load of folders too.

I need to get rid of my old Tesco value vacuum cleaner because I have bought a better one. I will get round to advertising it one day.
  • Also my advice is sign up for email alerts so that you get notified as soon as new items come up as some items like bicycles etc go very quickly. You can also post to ask for items you need.

For my local group not sure if it works the same with everybody elses probably the same everywhere use these headers in your post:

Offered - to give stuff away
    Wanted - to receive
Taken- post to all other freecyclers that the item you have offered is now gone.

    Happy Freecycling :-)

Yes same for us. I think there is a certain etiquette. I try to balance the items I ask for with giving away things at the same time. Certainly if people just asked for items and gave nothing away the whole system would fail.

try this site as well http://www.needstuff.co.uk/index.php
it needs members to get it up and running, but its a similar principle to freecycle.

We've got a similar one for Somerset called "Somerset Swaps and Loans" ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SomersetSwapsAndLoans/ ) But you need a Yahoo account to use it.

We had so many people on Freecycle wanting to Swap or Borrow items (and you are not allowed to on Freecycle) that a separate group was set up for just that!

    It works well.

i'm always freecycling, just "rehomed" two buggies. i don't have any transport, so i have on occasion asked if people would be willing to deliver, and offered fuel money of course. but wouldn't ask unless it was genuinely needed. i think freecycle is brilliant. i hate to see anything going to waste. especially when in this day and age we have to pay to have any bulk rubbish taken away. the buggies i just freecycled have a lot of life left in them, one was only used a couple of times. and rather than bin them i'd have kept them, taking up space that i haven't got. to see if someone could use them. don't like waste. i've always gotten second hand baby equipment mainly because i think it's such a waste buying new when they get so little use out of it.
    Unfortunately,
MONEY makes the world go round.
