I'm having real problems joining the Manchester Freecycle group. Is anyone else a member of it and did they have any problems? I'm getting questioned big time about my intentions to join, why am I in other FC groups, if I was going to sell an item, would I make it clear to the person giving it to me that it was my intention, etc etc... I just want to join the group and get some new stuff for my flat!0

Ignore that, I'm in now! Like Fort Knox!0

granny biker Freecycle in general is good.
Yes you do get some who try their luck to obtain the impossible.....but sometimes the impossible is offered!
I am Moderator for our Freecycle, and when we get an unusual offer like a Nano, Wii, etc i'll message the owner first to see what kind of response i'll get and see if the item is real.
Some posts are automated spammers who come back with a standard message of "Sorry it's gone....but I got my new one free from...... etc".
I like to think I try to keep our 'cycle safe from possible email harvesters who are a bane to us all.
Oh and welcome Nerd glad you found MSE!** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
Hi,I have been a member of freecycle for 5 months now.I have been given a nice new kitchen bin, B.T telephone, lexmark printer and a gas cooker all in working order and all for free. The site has also allowed me to unclutter my house and give what I don't need to someone who needs it.Everyone's a winner!
Join as soon as you can,you can ask for you want also, people will reply to a want.Or offer what you have. Its simple and you are sent e mails every time a new offer comes up.
Good luck and happy freecycling!:rotfl:0 -

I won some tickets to go to the London Motor Show for this weekend from MSE Andrea, but then found out we couldn't go. So I offered them on my local Freecycle and now a nice family are having a day out instead.
So not even tickets go to waste!** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -
Hi All,
Just thought I would share this with those who have not already heard about Freecycling. Quote from the website below.
" Freecycle is made up of 4,697 groups with 6,483,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people). Membership is free."
So far I have given away:
Piano, kite, childrens books, snooker table, tree, plants, VCR.
And have received:
TV, dishwasher, ironing board, camping equipment, topsoil, plantpots
This is a great way to save money as its completely Free! and a good way to clear out your old unwanted items too. I must say I am slightly addicted to it. Very useful though when my ironing board broke getting a nearly new one for nowt was excellent. Giving stuff away feels good too. My Piano now lives in a student house down the road from me and the tree has a new home by the river!
Happy freecycling!

On the main freecycle page if you scroll to the bottom you will come across a box that lists months and years. If you click on March 2009 it will then load all the posts from this month.0
