Asda Self Serve Checkout Staff

I've been to asda at midnight and its FULL of staff stocking the shelves. If everyone had to go back and re-stock the shelves because they decided not to purchase an item for whatever reason, this would hold everyone else in the queue.
If every customer did this then there'd still be queues, all the staff would be permanently putting products back!0 -

I for one would not be happy returning an item...what am I supposed to do at the till leave my goods there, half scanned, complete the transaction and take all my shopping back into the store.
I for one am not happy having to push a trolley around the store, should I also assume for my benefit, one of the assistants should do it for me also?:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Hiya I do work a twilight shift at asda on the checkouts once a week and I would be glad of any customers at that time of night especially ones that left something behind so I could have a wonder off to put it back on the shelf, really anything to keep me busy till 2am.0

There have been times when I've politely told customers to put products back. These being when they've just been bone idol. For example many till points have counters. I've often has customer would pick something up and change their mind. Rather than putting the product back they have picked up right in front of the till they would nudge it in my direction once they decided they didn't want it. Seeing they picked it up from an area in front of them which they haven't moved from I would suggest they put it back!
Again I've seen them do this whilst browsing. They'll pick an item up, not move at all, decide they don't want it and put it back in a different location (often just flung) even though they are stood in exactly the same spot, it's just like they can't be bothered. Again I would politely point out the place they picked the item up from.
They are just bone idol people like that.
its not the customers job to put things where they belong. its not bad for a customer to pick something up and put it back in a slightly different place. You don't go into a supermarket reminding yourself to put things back in the right places. There keeping someone in a job0 -
Collateral 'damage' of doing business. Expecting a customer to return an item to the shelf at checkout is about as absurd as expecting a customer to mop up their mess when they butterfinger a pasta sauce jar.
To the angry staff members - As an employee, and therefore, a representative of the company you should remember that the customer is increasing your profit margin and as such you should accommodate their every need; within reason of course.
I would consider returning an item that a customer has mistakenly picked up, during their attempt to profit the organisation you represent, a very reasonable task to perform - I’m sure your managers would agree?0 -
Here's hoping they don't expect customers to put things back on the shelf. Things might have changed in the two years since they started the thread.0

I don't get why customers can't check prices themselves. How utterly lazy!
Asda has great customer service and feel sorry for them ,must be a grind repeating urself all day!
If it's messy tho they should call someone down to fix it. That's part of their policy.0 -

That's quite a thread bump there!
Asda have trolleys full of 'putbacks', where all the dumped items at the checkouts are put into trolleys ready for staff to put the items back once the store is quiet... so don't feel too bad about dumping stuff at the checkouts.
This is the same for the self service where, at least for my local store, 2 baskets are set aside for these putbacks. So if you find you don't want/need an item at the self service, the member of staff should put it into one of these baskets. The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.
