Asda Self Serve Checkout Staff

first self service tills, now staff wanting customers to put stuff back. What next unpack the items yourself from the warehouse, selfscan, pay using card only. Pretty soon there will be no staff at all. Be happy you have a JOB, do it with a smile, I see in the paper everyday another company putting 1000s more out of a job. Appreciate what you have, a JOB!0

I'll answer that but in respect of the cases I quoted, eg pure laziness, snobbery etc. The bog standard shop floor title is Sales Assistant, not Sales Servant!
Some customers are pains in the @rse with no respect, but you'll also find that those customers spend quite alot over the annual quota - so best be nice to them, huh? ... or there won't be enough revenue for your job.
I worked in sales many moons ago and I had some right annoying customers, clothes retail where one woman demanded that I hang up every item after she'd tried it on, several others who had me run in and out of the stock room for every pair of shoes the shop sold...in multiple sizes (who didn't buy anything on that shopping trip, but did return a couple of weeks later and bought several of the pairs of shoes), people who would have me jumping up and down ladders for items and then purchase the first thing they saw...after I'd put it back 3 times when they said they didn't like it! As much as you may feel like telling them what you think of them, it's usually better to smile sweetly and remember your manners - even if the same respect and gratitude is not returned!
No one said sales was the most gratifying of jobs!If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!0 -
"Customers can be very annoying, however the sales staff are paid to assist all customers and keep the shop floor clear and place items back to where they should be.
All stores have issues with stock being put back in the wrong area etc that is retail, Changing rooms in clothes stores are a good example clothes are handed back to the assistant it his there job to put them back it can be annoying but it is essential for the smooth running of the shop.
The sales staff can hold any view they like of the customer but they are not paid to express there views to the customer, and i doubt very much any store would condone telling customers to put things back "

Thats great - except I don't work there. Techincally merchandising isn't actually my job (although I usually put stuff away if i'm free).Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

Hanging an item of clothing back on a rail is merchandising?
I suppose smiling at a customer would be PR then, and that's rarely in the job description.
Any member of staff who was mystery shopped and told a customer to put something back would get a rather negative score I think.0 -
What I meant was that techincally someone elses job is to make sure everything is where it should be, whereas my job is to talk to customers - however where possible i put stuff back.
I was pointing out that it really doesn't matter at all what some guy who runs a shop says - as I don't work for him for a start.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
My Mother used to have a way of dealing with staff who would point her in the direction of someone else to help them. She used to say "Oh I'm sorry, I thought you worked here".0

When i worked in asda they had people that actually put back stuff that people didnt want? They took a trolley and put it all back?
If i dont want something i try and put it back where i found it and not dump it.
But.. it is a bit of a trail having to take something back with all your shopping? Going back into store to do it. Unless the staff ment do it now and mayeb form a queue?!Debts to clearHSBC CC:1000/846 19.9%(atm)Barclay Card: 750/650(o%balance transfer)HSBC Loan:1000/0 COMPLETE!!Capital One CC:200/0 34.9%!!!!
