I don't see what the problem is with putting stuff back if you're wandering around the store doing your shopping.
Once you're at the tills what are you supposed to do? Stop scanning your items wander back, put item on shelf, go back to till and resume scanning? Cancel everything you've scanned so far, return item, queue again at till? Wait until you've scanned everything and wander back into the store and almost certainly catch the eye of security for acting a bit odd?
I'm pretty sure most stores have gophers (for want of a better word) who do stuff like fetch replacement items, surely they could put the items back?"One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. FWIW I haven't actually had a contract of employment yet (even though i've been there 3 months).
What the ad for my job said:
provideing support in other areas of the store, that means do as requested there just being airy fairy,
You need to request that contract assumeing you wish to stay?.0 -
They do - but at the same time in places like Tesco's they would need an army to make sure that everything goes back where it should be!

I always assumed the self service tills, were for the purpose of self service, i generally pick n choose my items, mayb even changing my mind and putting items back, but all before i got to the till, even moreso if i go to the self service, and should I change my mind at that point, I wouldnt "expect" a member of staff to return it, I may politely "ask" if one is available, and doesnt seem too busy.
I Liken Self Service tills to a Self service petrol station, whereas I wouldnt expect the attended to run out to me to give me the right change for the pump.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

To assist in all aspects of their shopping experience...
Actually it often isn't that way now. Companies decide how many staff they will have on till, companies will decide how many staff they have on the shop floor. Many companies have decided their customers should have to queue to keep costs down, likewise shop floor staff are reduced as well.
Different types of retail have different models. Clothes retail will have more shop floor staff than many other types of retail, the more "fast moving" (an industry phrase for having little staff and being busy!) types of retail won't be like this. A classic example is Lidl & Aldi, they expect you to queue, they don't have many staff on the shop floor. They certainly won't expect their staff to "wait" on customers like in the example you gave above.
Now thats where the all aspect is where the customer again makes up a job role to suit themselves. You added a fancy elaboration on what you think assistant means to suit what you want, but that isn't going to be the actual job description of every Sales Assistant. A customer might decide an aspect of their shopping experience isn't to have to queue, they don't actually get a choice on what every aspect of their shopping experience is. If they don't like it they can go somewhere else.
As I said earlier. I'm simply talking about people who can't be bothered to move their arms. Not all companies now want to accommodate customers who need that much attention eg they can't even move their arms.0 -

I've been to asda at midnight and its FULL of staff stocking the shelves. If everyone had to go back and re-stock the shelves because they decided not to purchase an item for whatever reason, this would hold everyone else in the queue.
I for one would not be happy returning an item...what am I supposed to do at the till leave my goods there, half scanned, complete the transaction and take all my shopping back into the store.0
