Wow, as Shelley says, seems to be a lot of debt-busting going on already. I still have to do my budget for this month
.
Amex card sounds like an interesting way of keeping a spending diary - let us know whether it works. Although I probably would put a can of Pepsi on a card, I've been known to buy chewing gum on my debit card!
I was so embarrased yesterday, reached the till in the supermarket - I was only buying some carrots - and forgot I'd put all my spare cash in my sealed pot, so after a lot of rummaging around I had to pay a few pence by card. The cashier probably thought I was really poor after Xmas. :rotfl:
Doodledoo - chin up! Looks like thi sthread is getting busy agin to take your mind off things Any nice plans for the weekend?

Once as a very poor student I bought value beans and loaf of bread on credit card - the lady in corner shop didn't even raise a hair. I guess I might get a different response in Waitrose (but shouldn't be shopping there anyway!!)Looking for the perfect home and saving to make becoming a MFW easier

Hi everyone,
Trying to catch up with everyone. Hope everyone had a lovely Xmas and New Year.
Doodledoo, hope things have calmed with your ex.
TooMuch, hope all the illness is over in your family.
Everyone else, the payments are looking great already! Looks like 2009 will be a very good year payment wise.
I had a good Xmas and New Year. There were some family dramas but nothing too major. I am hoping to transfer 1/2 of my savings into my credit card sometime in January so will take a sizeable chunk from my credit cards. My aim is to have my credit card gone by the time OH finishes uni in July so we just have the loan left.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Hey all!
I only have one credit card and student loan left to pay now. Snowball calculator says I should put most of the money towards credit card and if I do as it suggests and am able to pay as much of as I want from this month onwards, end of June I should only have my student loan left to pay.
Though the loan is the biggest one,it feels so good to have gotten rid of everything else. Feels like progress, though the long slog is still ahead of me.
Have managed to list 3 out of 4 boxes on amazon and already managed to sell 3 books that I've just listed. Profit from those is £11.12.

Shelley - we will hold you to that. I'm afraid I still mess up and spend on stuff I shouldn't. Lucky today though as MIL took us out for a meal to my favourite pub so that was great.
DS has just had his birthday - he has been given so much money off other people he is going to get an ipod touch... He was thrilled to bits with his honeydukes hamper and other pressies - a few of which were ideas from this site. Things like that all make it easier for me to stay on track.
I've now joined the grocery challenge to try and curb my spending in other areas so we will have to see how that goes...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Woo, well done Buffy and tirlittan! :T I'm feeling rubbish today - have had what feels like palpitations for a couple of months now but haven't got round to going to doctor yet. Think I'll take it easy today - at least it will be an NSD. Had a nice night out yesterday so not too bothered about staying in.0

CMD, Tirlittan and Buffy it sounds like you are making great progress.
Sorry yesterday I replied to Shelley on page 78 but didn't notice the rest until after I'd posted.
Snow white - hope you feel better soon - but to make sure get that doctor's appointment booked!
Hope CAFCGirl's move is going well.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Snow White please make an appointment to see your GP it needs checking out and hope you have a lovely relaxing Sunday.
Saving Homes hope your DS had a fab birthday - what was the Honeydukes hamper? I'm guessing it a Harry Potter / chocolate themed gift. Sounds like heaven
So impressed by the hampers made on here might do one for Mum's birthday in April if I start bagsing bargains now I could make a beaut by then. Last year my sister and I bought her an iphone (it was her 60th) So its going to be difficult to beat.
I've checked my bank / savings accounts was thrilled by how much cash is still in my current account but then looked at spends so far on Amex card  As a way to curb my spending its going to work a treat - I've been very good & kept all my receipts so can check actual details of supermarket shops. Not sure Christmas was good time to start. Its shocking how much stuff I bought just in case.... in case of what I'm not quite sure but we'd have survived a Day After Tomorrow style snow storm! Shame chunks of it will be wasted I'm currently devouring a cheese mountain as I refuse to bin any of the yummy stuff.Looking for the perfect home and saving to make becoming a MFW easier
