  • Is that with the lady who is looking after her for you? Does she have an enclosed area to let her run in? I just ask because otherise I would be very wary about her letting her off lead as she does not know the lady yet - I always think a dog should be with someone for at least 2 weeks before you let it off lead anywhere open.

ETA - sorry, I just realised my last post was the longest post in the world! lol

Yep with her & yep enclosed, i'm not even gonna ever let her off myself if not totally enclosed let alone let anyone else do it! I warned her too that she might jump 5ft & the gates are higher so ok tho i'll look myself before. The cat worries me now she was looking like she'd ambush the dog last night lol she'll walk up by her to go out now.

The key seems to be keeping Chaya calm, once she's in that shaking Terrier i've seen something I want whining stage she'd chase, but that's mostly when she's just had a walk. If she's calm then they get on ok! I wonder if they'll ever sleep together

Border terrier. He is beautiful. We wanted a companion for our disabled dog (he had 1 and half of his back feet chewed off by his mum during a difficult delivery :() - he was due to be pts, but someone knew we were a soft touch and had just lost our Lucy on her 16th birthday. We had decided "no more" like you do, but we couldnt let him be pts. He was fine with other dogs when he was a puppy as they expected him to walk a bit strangely and fall over but when he was fully grown we found, to our horror, he was shunned or attacked!

After a couple of years we decided he need his own pack and that would give him confidence and status with other dogs :). Ive always donated to all the small dog rescues and one day when I was sending a donation to one I saw the pound dog pics and there was Diggs looking at me and saying"Im perfect, mum, have me". So after he was put in emergency boarding on his 7th day and then transferred to a rescue and had an op and started to put on some weight - we had our dog innoculated for KC and then went to meet him. It was a 3.5 hour drive and OH said, I do hope they get on after all this.

The kennel girl went to get Diggs, out he trotted, our dog walked up to him and my heart was in my mouth, they KISSED and went mooching off together in the field. It was wonderful. The terrific thing too is that my disabled dog is alpha dog in the pair so its been a great boost to his confidence and where he would growl and bark at other dogs because he was fearful, now he is happy to mix and play because he sees Diggs is more than confident to do it :) Wonderful result and we love them both to bits.
  • I have been reading this thread and have become engrossed. It is the most heartwarming thread and as an avid animal lover myself find it great to see such a happy ending. I myself have a pampered little madam who is a CKCS and the most loving, loyal dog in the world.
I just had to say well done to tigerlily she seems like a very responsible owner and I know that her dog will bring her lots of pleasure. I went through a phase of having down days and my dog was such a support, there is nothing better than your animals love and trust.

MrsTine....you wholeheartedly dislike Chis and cant think of any redeeming feature of the breed? What a vile and rude comment to make when you know how much i love my dog. Im keeping out of this thread from now on. I dont like people who purport to like animals and seems to know EVERYTHING:D about them, when they are selective in what animals they do like - strange!!!
  • To be honest, I am not keen on Chi's either, but each to their own. I like little odd looking terriers, lots of people dont.

I find really dribbly breeds a bit challenging too!! Neopolitan Mastiffs!!! whoooo no!

But, lets not detract from this lovely thread - I want to hear how Chaya is doing - hope she had a fab day with the dog sitter!

Mely, dont be upset - we all have our favourite breeds. Ive had several different breeds of dog and Im always amazed when people go on about not liking Jack Russells as they are snappy and irritable. Ive had three Jacks, each one of them has been as soft as teddy bears. Same with rotties - I think the soppiest dog ever was my rottie/lab, but she used to terrify people who didnt know her.

May be its something in the far off memory of people?

I dont hate any animal - particularly dogs, but I find it very hard to bond with cats for instance. We are all different as are the animals.

Please dont let it stop you posting on this thread.
  • Yeah Chaya was great for the pet sitter. I left her with her Brekkie (She was NOT gonna pee in the rain thankyou very much!) & then the lady came to get her, she took her back to the barge for the day & said she was brilliant, loved having her & apparently she took to the womans OH right off the hussy! And only 3 days till pics! lol

What cross is Badger or breed? She's gorgeous!

Mely, again but from me, pls don't be upset. I love my cat but many hate them, as has been said we're all different, alot don't like certain breeds. I do love all animals though, i'm sure even nasty (j/k) pink loving MrsTine would love your dog, just maybe not her breed it that makes sense. I can like a dog for it's character but still not be a fan of it's breed.

Like I love Staffies, Huskies, GSD's, Golden Retrievers etc, I don't like Jack Russells much or Chi's or Yorkies BUT I still go all soppy over any animal! I have seen a pic of a Chi on this site i'm not sure if she was yours (I think she was called Peaches) & i'm sure I said she was cute & she is! But for me, they're not a preference x
