  • Tigerlily,
I have been browsing this thread for quite a while and just wanted to add a vote of support. I think you will make a good responsible pet owner, you've obviously thought it all through and provided for the unexpected.

I know so many people who have pets and work and leave them for 12 hours a day with no company, that is what is bad pet ownership!

I'm glad that Chaya is settling in well and wish you both many happy years together. I'm sure both you and dog will benefit from this mutual friendship, I think having a dog is very good for mental health, provided the human has mental, physical and financial resources and it sounds like you are just right.

I would love to see a picture too!

    Well done
    Hugs

I think most realise that both FC and I are usually amongst the first to "jump" any threads that state they want a puppy because it's "cute" and they work 10 days etc have 10 kids under 12 (totally fictional scenario here - I'm just making a point!) and have never had dogs before but isn't a springer/rottie/great dane/border collie going to be perfect for them and where can they buy a wellbred animal cheaply like the one they saw in the free adds... *cringe*
And I think most (not all by any means!) of the advice and support on here have come from our corners... we don't always agree and we don't always have the same points of veiw - I hate dog coats with a vengance forexample :) I'm a firm believer in dogs growing a natural winter coat - but I made my point and that's that :)
tiger took the tiem to explain why she's choosing to use a coat which she certainly didn't have to do :) But to me it shows she's listening, thinking about what was said and then weighing it up and making a decision. And even if that doesn't agree with my view I'll continue to offer advice (whether she wants it or not! LOL) because she's perfactly capable of looking at the suggestions and then making a decision and being responcible for that...

I think that the benefits she gets are way too high, but you know what? So does she! :D I don't make the rules and she doesn't either. If she turned it down she'd loose all of it - and if or when she goes back to work she'll have less money but she's done the maths and taken that into account...
More than most people posting do :)

So long as the pets are cared for and looked after then best of luck to her...

Thanks for the support people it means alot. Well I went to the TC today & left her, thought an armchair against the door would be fine but nope she got out lmao so will sort that but she's not made any mess (Tho she did leave her Kong until now  , thought she was supposed to have that while i'm out! lol)

The council are here working & I asked how she was & the guy said not too bad actually so I guess she settled down, she certainly hasn't destroyed the place!

lol @ Mrs Tine, you're just jealous you can't have a pink coat! But I decided when she's normal weight to take it off cause I think her being underweight is more likely why she's cold & maybe that she wasn't having good long walks & ya get warm on walks don't you! So yeah as soon as she's a decent size it'll go!

I think a reason I get high benefits is because i'm on DLA which is hard to get for mental health & normally only severe cases get it, it's for the extra expenses such as Therapy which is a hell of a lot to pay out on but very necessary! (Don't get me started on the state of the NHS for mental health)!

I went to the Personality Disorder place today & they said I need to do 16 weeks in their group & then can try voluntary work yay. I said I don't want to still be off work this time next year & it's a shame that on good days no job will have me cause I cant commit! If a job said sure come in when well, i'd be working!

TC think the dog is a great idea (After checking I didn't get her on impulse!) lol & will give me some stability & routine. Even on days when the pain is too bad to walk I have a few people to help out.

Chaya means Shade & is pronounced with the Ch like Chu (Chair) & it rhymes with Fire. Ch ire. It's Indian & should be spelt Chhaya. It was great to come home to her she was so pleased with herself at getting out! lol

If I hadn't got her I wouldn't have gone to the TC today, i'da still been in bed or down. And she helps as i'm not stable enough to be round people much but animals I am fine with & she's company. And I shoulda called her Pumbaa definitely the noisy mutt! lollllll

I loathe pink even more than I do doggy coats ;) Ask my DH! I think I own a total of uhmmmmm *thinks hard*... oh yeah ONE dusky pink outfit - which now I have seen pictures of it on me I think will HAVE to go!... If we have a baby girl she'll be sorely pink derived until such a time I cannot get out of buying pink things because she demands them... *cringe*

Maybe we'll be lucky and get a goth?

Tigarlily, no way on earth do you have to justify anything to anyone on this board.

You first came and posted about getting a dog and you LISTENED and took on board the info you were given and acted on it. You have demonstrated time and time again that you are indeed capable of owning and caring for a dog. Every obstacle we thought up, you were prepared for or found a way around YOU are a responsible pet owner - thats all we or anyone on here needs to know.

I have been plagued with mental health problems all my life and there have been times when its been my dog that has kept me alive. There have been times when I havent been able to even bath myself, yet managed to take the dog for his walk, feed him, play with him.Never has my dog been neglected because of my illness and Im sure from what I know of you, neither would yours
  • yup, Tigerlilly has already passed the suspicious probing (ie. interrogation) of all of us dog nutters on here, and with flying colours too!!

She has asked for advice, listened to it, asked yet more sensible questions, floated her ideas for others to comment, researched, thought and thought some more.

Lets hope that the Chaya (lovely name btw!) has a long and happy life in her comfy new home with a loving owner, rather than being stuck in a rescue kennel and that Tigerlilly benefits from the fun, warmth, energy and love that a dog brings into life.

I work from home a lot, and can become a bit of a hermit as a result. I am sure that getting out and walking the dog makes an enormous difference to my ability to function well and my mental and physical wellbeing. I was talking to an acquantance today who has a new assistance dog (she is physically disabled) and she calls him her 'anti-depressant!' - I know exactly what she means!

Well done Tigerlily, we are all right behind you!:T

Mrs Tine - are you sure about that pink coat?? Try it you might like it...:rotfl:

Let me dog sit Kira i'd have her in a pink coat with antlers on! lmaooooo

It's GOOD that current dog owners throw out suggestions & what if's & things, I may know about animals but having not had a dog for years it all helps & it's good if you can make people really question if it's right. I have no intention of this mutt (Pumbaa's twin!) going anywhere she's here for good! Now, if I were to come on here saying guess what? I'm getting a second dog (Or any other animal/kid/man) i'd then hope people would yell @ me cause I don't have room for more.

I cannot wait to go to Hydrotherapy, hope she likes it, also hope they let me take a pic of her wearing her lifejacket! Chaya is SOOOO good I just wish I knew what happened. Today I walked her by a school of young kids, yanno primary age & she was ok. She's obviously learned some commands & has an amazing temperament so !!!!!! happened :!!

Mind you for all I know her owner could have been old & died or anything I spose. lol she did scare George the uncastrated tom (Who moves house this week yay) he shot off before I saw him & she was like whizzzzzzzz lol good thing she was on a lead, I was chatting to a neighbour & only saw George's retreating !!!!

Gonna look in the park tomorrow as it seems to be fully enclosed & I want to be sure. If it is she can run there while I stand at the gate to let anyone know I need to catch her (Tho you see people walking up to the gate way before they get there so would have time) if it is I plan to take her at like 6am when it's quiet on a long 35ft line to practice her recall. Then when & if she gets it 100% she can go free but only that early before anyones about.

Now, I still have things to buy & want to do it online cause it's easier & means I don't have to leave her! What pet websites are reliable & good value? I want another kong, a nice PINK extending lead for off road, some reflective stuff for at night, food etc ohh & Frontline. She hasn't got any fleas & the rescue flea treated her once but don't routinely unless they get any (Maybe to save money?) but I intend to monthly as the cat does also.

I got her a Zoom Groom brush but will get more & she needs a bath but i'm gonna send her to a groomer first time! Partly because she needs to settle first but also because for all I know she might've been abused somehow water related & IF she turned I don't fancy being on my own with her! Tho I doubt she will but just to be sure. Least the groomers have a few there & know what they're doing, they can show me how to clip her nails too as ya can't see the quick.
