One of many benefits to a rescue dog I guess! She's sooo clean. Quite skinny though, I wonder how quick they gain weight, the rescue didn't say anything about her being skinny when they found her & her spine shows. They fed her 2x a day @ 8:00am & 3:00pm (But said 3:00pm wasn't ideal, later is better) on 1 tin of meat in Jelly (Cat food tin size so about 400g?) & mixer & I think she had a Kong at night with Chappie in.
I'da thought she'd be normal weight by now after 4/5 weeks or more in rescue? Still she's wolfing it down when I feed her & has some treats too lol she refused her carrot tho!0 -
If I was unemployed, living on benefits, I wouldn't be in a good financial position to have pets. It's all about responsible ownership. I would also want better for myself before taking on such responsibility. If you are too unwell to have a job, surely you are too unwell to be responsible for another living being?0

And if you werent such a patronising git you would have read that the OP has a health problem that stops her from working for now - So go find another greenhouse
I am entitled to my view as much as anyone else on this thread, so telling me to leave is a bit narrow minded.
Having bipolar does not stop you from working, unless hospitalised. I just think people underestimate the financial implications of owning pets, especially some breeds. Getting a job, and some money, and then seeing whether a dog fits into your new lifestyle, would surely have been a better resolution. Focus on you, and not whether any future job can fit in around a dog. I wish you the best with your recovery.0 -

And if you had taken the time to read this thread you would have seen thatthe OP has taken everything into consideration - even pet insurance so that she isnt a drain on charities
And for some, whilst in crises, work is impossible, YOU are not the ops doctor, you have no right to even imply she should be working.
Now if you have nothing of any use to add to this thread - go find some other poor soul to bully0 -

That doesnt sound a lot of food to build her up on? Which rescue was it?
Id have thought if she were really bad/skinny several meals a day would have been the way to go. 1 tin of cat food size is not even enough for a cat!0 -

First off I get alot more now than when working & am more than aware of costs of pet care, I don't drink or smoke or go out or have a car, so just because i'm not well enough to work I shouldn't have a life? How many people have kids who aren't well enough to work? I don't, I can't. Don't judge when you have no idea what you're talking about, you have no idea what my life is like, if I wasn't well enough to have a dog I wouldn't, all of my pets are well looked after with all they need0 -

Thanks but I don't think you're a Psychiatrist or know why i'm off work, yes i'm Bipolar, no that's not the only reason i'm off work & I will be in 5 day a week treatment very soon for my illness'. I'm not able to work because my Consultants won't allow it. I have more than enough money for a dog you don't need to worry about my finances. I don't underestimate financial cost, i've had animals all my life & worked with them too & qualified.
Yes in an ideal world people would all work but that's not always possible. Why should I live a life alone with no pets when i'm able to give an excellent home to a few?! Any future job has already been taken into consideration, I already worked out the lower income & if I could afford to still have a dog & what i'd do while out etc. I'm NOT as stupid as you seem to think. All my pets are insured yearly, vaccinated, chipped, flea & wormed, fed good premium food, the rats have a cage to hold 17. Having a job doesn't make someone a good pet owner.
How many people work & spend money on booze or cigs & still don't providce for their pets? My Mum & Stepdad both have good jobs, huge house, doesn't make them good owners. Yes you're entitled to your opinion but without facts & knowledge it doesn't mean alot.
And yes, I hope to one day be better too but one day at a time. And in case you haven't read, i've waited 23 years before getting a dog to be SURE it's the right time.0 -

lol I was wondering if it's enough too, 1 cat tin is just abit over what an average cat needs a day so yeahThey said she is about 12kgs, but she could do with gaining abit. So 2x tins a day with mixer. But I was thinking after 4/5 weeks in there she'd have gained enough to be normal weight surely if she didn't come in really thin? lol I asked her condition when she came in, if she was really thin. Well, she's on 170g JWB a day + 1 pouch JWB now which is what JWB say to give her so if it's like cat food they're saying more than she needs. Hopefully she'll gain soon but will check with the Vet
