Oh no! hope the PT is fixed asap!

as for "shrugging of shoulders and tutting" disease... am sure if you get the same condition then the current sufferer may miraculously (sp?) recover ;):D

This thread is just what I need to keep me motivated. You mention your poly tunnel a lot. Do you have any advice about buying, site, size etc?

First tunnels gave a great service. The in intstructions were easy to understand. Always get the biggest you can afford as you will always fill it and whixh you had a bigger one. Go wider rather than longer. A long narrow one is worse than a short wide one. Mine is 12ft wide and 20ft long, and i can fit loads in and it's great to work in but i wouldn't go any narrower becuase getting around the different beds would be a nightmare. However if you were looking at a greenhouse size with a path in the middle then it would be fine.

I wanted mine up in the month March for the start of the season but the frame didn't go up until the end of April and the cover not until the end of May. It took 6 men (all friends from the plot as my OH wouldn't help me) and me to put the cover on. We did a really good Job and it was completed in 4 hours. The frame took a weekend but that was just me and my Dad and a 75 year old. If you have some younger Men helping it would be quicker;)

Always go for the thermal cover. I'm so pleased i spent the extra money getting it as I've been in a tunnel that has just the basic cover and the water drips down all over the place and it doesn't get as warm as mine which is only perhaps more noticable in the cooler months.

I set up a watering system myself. I run pipe of waterbutt (which i have raised 2ft of the ground)with a smaller pipe run of that going into my beds I'm pleased to report back that it works.

I can't wait to see how I do during the winter and how early the crops grow in spring. I think I've got an old photo of it at the start when I had just done the beds which I'll try and find.
    Kind Regards

  • Thanks for the plans Mum of 4! Much appreciated!

We've decided to dig up our entire back garden save for a space for our chickens. We have 13 hens and we also raise meat birds so we'll keep runs for them and the rest of the garden will be producing for us.

How do you find raising meat birds. I was thinking about it but didn't know how you montor the feeding of the layers and the meat birds. Do yours live in differnt coups. My OH said he would dispatch them so I wouldn't have to do that job.
