    This looks good http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/todo_now/veg_gard_now.php

With regards to sowing things now: do i sow outdoors or indoors?

The autmn sown broad beans and peas can be sown in the ground but be careful if the soil is very wet as they just rot. I've sown in Autumn and spring i don't really find i gain anything other than it makes me feel good to sow them now when there isn't much else to do. So you could just sow them undercover a bit ealier and polant out in spring. Some people use guttering for the peas which i think works well, i just use loo rolls or root trainers.

Thanks very much for the plans, have motivated me to dig over another bed in my veg plot. I have planted garlic, just normal one from supermarket or should i have used a special one from the garden centre.
Going to try and put my plot on a spreadsheet now. Thanks again.

I've tried doing that in the past and although it worked the bulbs were very small. The ones you buy from say a gardencentre have given me a really good yeild and I've only had the odd failure. I don't buy from a gardencentre i've found a good place not far away.

So peeps in Bristol (there are a few of us) i get mine from the petshop in Keynsham it's on the corner by the mini roundabout. Even better in spring they sell about 10 different potatoes loose in baskets several differnt onions red and white and a couple of different types of shallots.

All sold be weight and you can buy as few as 1 of each if you like and all much cheaper than anywhere else. They also sell cheap canes.

I'm sure in other parts of the country there are sililar places.
    Kind Regards

Anyone know where to get cheap onion sets from now? I'm sure that last year with my small beds, I paid more for the sets and seed potatoes than buying the veg would have cost me!
Yes but these aren't just any potatoes and onions, these are organic, grown lovingly by hand, they have minimum time from plot to plate, maximum nutrients and taste.
So what if they have the odd slug hole, that's what makes them real vegetables.

TBH I do find the same thing. If I had a massive plot I would probably grow them, but all I grow now is new potatoes and red onions. The cost and taste of them works for growing them at home I feel. White onions and maincrop potatoes, to me aren't worth it.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

I have to say i would never buy from online stores for seed potatoes as the P&P is so much due to the weight. I agree with Lotus-Eater maincrop potato's are not there expensive in the supermarkets so it's not the end of the world if you don't grow them.

Remember grow what you want to - just because a book tells you how great they are doesn't mean they are a good crop for you. My MIL always seems to suffer from slugs/worms (or what ever they are) eating hers. Mine just seem to get blight.

After this year at least I'm a bit more aware of the size plants grow to - MONSTER pumpkins!
